country music let down

well, after 59 years of age and listening to country music for most of that time i am about to sign off. the music has changed and is no longer country and is a hybrid missmach of who knows what?

maybe i am getting old but the music seems to be more hip-hop, rock-en-roll than the music of the 50s and 60s and 70s. just saw a viedo with a mr. snoop doggy singing country and it was strange. he was bleeped a number of times. also i am starting to see the sign of the devil (first and last finger) in a number of the viedos.

am i being old fashion or is it time for me to start changing with the times? don't think i can change that much.

dam.

You're partially right on both accounts but I think it's just a sign of the times.

Music is blurred at the boundaries.... around here, it's not uncommon to hear Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts and Carrie Underwood on the terrestrial radio stations that normally play Usher, Chris Brown, Rhianna, Three Doors Down, etc.... Those might not be the most 'country' of artists around but they're classified as 'country'. Consumers are no longer listening to one genre of music. The industry is changing along with that.

I am only 18 but i know exactly what your talking about. I listen to the older country songs and then put on the radio and listen to what they call 'New country' and it sounds alot like pop or rock.

But, my friend, this is what CD players are made for. Compile all of your favorite country tunes onto CD's or tapes and you wont have to stop listening to country and you wont have to change with the times. I have since moved to listening to bluegrass. =)

I live in Seattle and the choice of Country music stations sucks, Its Pop County and Pop Rock. When I head down to Southern Or. For the horse shows they have a good mix of Country stations that play just old (pre 1988) and a good mix of new and old. I hate Rascal Flatts and Carrie Underwood.
Play More Hank Jr/Sr.

Totally agree, the style of music has skewed pretty far off from what I enjoy. The music I like to listen to would now be considered "classic country", and I'm 22yrs old!

And I'm not into the hip hop where all they talk about is what they talked about last year, just worded different. How much of this junk could they come up with? How many girls can they pack onto the video screen so the ugly rappers look important, and wanted, and "ballers". What fakes...

And I'm not really into the emo rock pop junk stuff, if I wanna hear boys cry about their girl problems I'll come on the "Other" threads and hear mature ppl talk about it. I mean it is really getting sad to see boys wanting to wear girl clothes and cover one of their eyes up with thier hair, then paint their fingernails black, eyes black and who knows what else! No offense to anyone, wannabes is just one of my rant buttons!

Sounds like it's time for you to get a satellite radio.

I fully agree with you. I like the older stuff like george strait and some other older tunes. the newer stuff makes me want to loose my lunch. I dont listen to new country either. someone like talyor swift cant carry a tune in a bucket! she might as well just sing pop with the simpson sisters that cant sing either.

I hardly ever listen to the radio anymore. Half the time it's commercials anyway. Just make your own 4000+ song collection on an IPOD! It's easy and no commercials, bad songs, or BS.

52 years old and I started listening to country when I was 15 and my cousin made a few recordings. I still enjoy listening to Mel Tillis, Jack Green, Faron Young and those from that era. I liked the old Willie Nelson but not after he turned into an old hippie in the mid 70s. I like good dance music that when dancing I know who I am dancing with and how she feels. I call line dancing the lonely hearts club. I can't get the step right for the music they play now.

Couldn't agree more. I'm 21 and listen to what you could consider "classic", "outlaw", "cowboy" country. I'm sick of the direction mainstream country music is going. It has taken the heart and soul out of country music.

We had a real good country station that played more older tunes, mixed some of the new ones in. Darn Christmas came along and they turned that station into 24 hrs of christmas songs for two months. That good ole country station is gone... The two other local stations play all the new genre, over and over same songs two hrs later..... Thanks to the invention of IPOD/MP3 players, all the good oldies are now playing when ever I hit the play button. Being overseas with the military, Armed Forces Network, mixes all music together with each hour someone favorite.....you never know what coming across the radio. Local nations music could be better than some of that rap/hip hop stuff......Leigh

I hear you guys too. I am 25 and prefer the more "country" country music. Hank Jr, George Strait, etc. Of the newer stuff, I like Tracy Byrd, Trace Adkins, Toby Keith, and some others. We used to have a classic country station in central OH, but they changed to playing "everything country" with includes the pop-ish stuff.
