maybe not as good as Mama's, but dang good!

and i think Cracker Barrel has the BEST!

 

i cook the best. only real mashed potatoes, and a heathly dose of grease gravy and green beans!! ive never had one at a restaurant that compares...no matter what the size of font they use to lure you in with "real home cooking"

The best chicken fried steak ive had

hands down, Jodys in Temple Texas... Place is a shrine to George Strait, a chicken fried steak the size of a toilet seat, unlimited sweet tea and crisp fries for under 10 bucks..

That was a deal.... might have to make a roadtrip now..

Sweet tea in Texas? A coworker of mine grew up in Beaumont and lived in Longview for about half his life. He always swears that sweet tea is a rarity there.

Anyway 04CTD, do you happen to have a Cheddars around? They do pretty good. I always get white gravy on mine though!

The absolute best place I have ever ever found for country fried steak is Eastman Chemical Companies Building 89 cafeteria in Kingsport Tn! They serve country fried steak once a week and I'm there just about every time! Man it is good and better than any place I have ever had it outside of the plant! The portions are huge and you can get it for $6 along with 2 sides and a 32oz drink!

All this talk about it is making my mouth water now. I've not had one in over a month because I've been laid up with a broke femur and kneecap after a car wreck. Yall have really got me wanting that bad now!! I really want to get back to work soon!

 

Mmmmm, food. I need to go home and get some of that good stuff... John, there was a place in savannah, Mrs Wilkes boarding house, it had killer chow. I'll find out about it, and maybe if it is still open, we can take a trip. Either that, or that Paula Dean resturaunt.

 

Heitmiller's near Waco has a very good chicken Fried Steak. And Sweet tea is everywhere down here.

 

Goodson's Cafe Tomball, Texas. Famous for the chicken fried steak, huge portions, and good.

 

its not to bad, but since she passed away, i think the quality has gone down. everytime i go there it seems like 75% breading and 25% chicken fried steak

I hear the wait to get in is hours and hours, but we should go.

duct tape the kids in my bed, under the tonneau cover.
it's insulated, we won't hear them screaming...
and take the OL's for a nice quiet meal...

actually, prolly be quieter if we took the kids, and left the OL in the truck...

they had CF steak in cafeteria today. straight out the microwave. well, not straight, mine was cold.

still good, better than a burger.

 

As for sweet tea,

We had a buddy in Omaha NE, and everywhere we went out to eat, I asked sweet tea.
Sometimes twice. Even if we were there the night before.
He got real fed up & sometimes embarrassed at me constantly asking and explaining
“putting sugar in tea – don’t make it sweet tea”

so he came down to GA for a visit, and he spent the week in Savannah. He came back and said “now, you folks got something going on with this SWEET TEA, it is awesome!!”

I talked to him after he went back to Omaha, and he tells me, “you just can’t get good southern sweet tea in Nebraska”

 

I say... we leave all of them...Nah, I like being around my OL, and she's easy on the eyes (mine at least) so she's not so bad to have around. Gotta do it on a week day when the kids are in school or something, and we just have the baby.

I've been to Paula Dean's place. The wait was for an hour or so.

Truthfully the food was just ok. The service is excellent and you get a good assortment of breads but its sort of a glorified buffet.

When I was there they had your run of the mill salad bar, the main course was fried chicken and pork barbecue. The chicken wasn't the greatest, KFC was more tender and less greasy. The barbecue was pretty good.

I actually came hoping for some fish of some sort. I mean it is in Savannah, I figured there would be something from the sea in there.

It was one of those places where its nice to visit and say you went to but you really can find better.

No offense to Paula, we've used some of her recipes around here and they were great.

 

Yes, The boarding house is closed but the resturant is still open. Get there early..........
