I think sweet tea is the only thing us Texans drink more of than beer.
Also ask anyone that has been here, Bill Millers BBQ has some of the best sweet tea. As far as chicken fried steak, I dont think I have met one I didnt like. There are some better than others, but MAN Im hungry. now.

It sure as heck doesn't come from the two places we get it from here in Shepherd!

City Cafe in South Houston used to be pretty good.

Probably Sodolak's in Snook, TX. For 10 bucks you get two plate sized chicken fried steaks with fries and a salad.

I know Denny's has a bad rep but we met some friends in Tucson and enjoyed their CFS so much we went back the next day. They use white country gravy.

Hate to say this but Goodson's suxs. They went downhill after selling out. Was there three months ago (not on my free will) and it was horrible.
Best place in Tomball now is Mel's Country Kitchen. I can make two meals off of their chicken fried steaks.

There is a place close to my kin in Plantersville Tx. Relay Station, I've never had an average chickenfried steak taste so good. And then theres a place a couple miles from me, Oaks Restaurant, makes awesome food also. Sweet tea is the one to have.

We have one Roadhouse around Little Rock (North Little Rock to be exact) and a bunch of Crackerbarrels. To be honest with you, I wouldn't care if the Roadhouse that we have burnt to the ground. I have been there 4 times and every time the service is absolutely the WORST (can you tell I hate this place?) service that I have ever received at a restaurant. I am very easy going and will put up with a certain amount of crap but they are ridiculous. I honestly can't understand how they are still in business. I absolutely refuse to step foot back in that place for as long as I live. Crackerbarrel is hit or miss. Sometimes the service is great and sometimes it is horrible. It really depends on how busy they are. Their country fried steak (actually I usually get the country fried chicken) and gravy is really pretty good though.

About the best that you can get around here is a place called the Frontier Diner. They have amazing "home cooked" food. It is a family owned business and they truly care about their customers and they cook some great food. It is one of those places that only stays open during lunch and when the food is gone.... it's gone. And that's the way it should be!

Jailhouse Cafe in San Antonio. Their Chicken Fried Steak (Im pretty sure its Texas law that Chicken Fried Steak has to be capitalized ) is ginormous, comes on two plates smothered in WHITE gravy! They also have fresh made cinnamon buns the size of your head. Definantely going there when Im home on leave next week.

I second that, awesome sweet tea. I still have my refillable jug I bought from there 7 years ago! Their 99 cent chopped beef sandwiches are deelish as well.
