Count down to Thanksgiving, let's talk food
We're frying again this year. Our standard has been to melt honey and butter together and inject it. Let's hear what you do for Thanksgiving. Do you have any special family traditions? Recipes?

I prefer the cajun season spice for the fried turkey. We're gonna take the easy road since were not cooking this year and order a smoked turkey from Rudy's bbcue. Eating less this week so I have more room on Thur

Wife is on call at the Hospital so we are going out for breakfast at Cracker Barrel with the grand babies and hoping to get to eat before she gets called in to work.
I will then putter around the garage cleaning and watching ball games, probably just going to put a Tamale Pie in the oven for Supper. Kinda hard to do a big feast type layout when you know the phone can ring at any moment.
Can you get Turkey and Cranberry, biscuits and gravy at Cracker Barrel for breakfast?

Doing four of these on my charcoal pig cooker: http://purelyprimal.com/2010/10/13/b...turkey-breast/
Prolly put charcoal in one basket and applewood in the other for some extra flavor. Standard sides, mashies, green been casarole, home made bread. Might fry up some wings for appetizers if enough people show. Tring to keep the cooking outside this year to minimize the kitchen mess

Doing a another bird from the Hutterite's this year in the oven the traditional way. I have to do two dinners. One on Thursday and one on Saturday. Wife's parents got divorced when she was 10 and they don't really get along so we have to do everything twice like birthdays for the kids, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. It sucks but that's the way it goes. Her Dad's birthday is on Saturday so I'll be doing an 8 lb. prime on the Weber for that day. I usually just have to contend with the meat so I have it pretty easy. My only problem is the weather determines how I cook it. This week we're going to have cold weather. It's supposed to be down to around -22 F with highs in the -2 - 8 for the days. Not crazy about trying to keep oil 350 degrees in that kind of temp nor standing out in it either. By Saturday it's supposed to be back up in the teens so the Weber will get a good workout. Probably use some cherry and hickory mix for the prime. Mom will be bringing a couple pies and scalloped oysters, corn pudding and some of our family traditional favorites. The wife will be doing everything else. I always get asked and I usually say I'm good with meat and dessert. Should be good eats.

This year is going to be a little different, home made everything with natural ingredients. The FDA started putting stuff (soy) in the food that is making me sick. So we are taking it back out.

We are going to have a full house and I was volunteered to do the cooking so I made everyone vote on fried, smoked or traditional bird, the majority wanted traditional so I'll do the traditional feast...all from scratch and dare anyone to leave the table less than stuffed.

doing the usual
the wife's crockpot dressing is wonderful. puts just enough crunchy parts around the edge while staying fluffy and juicy.

All the usual suspects, turkey, stuff, potatoes, gravy, cranberries(if any one can explain this to me, please do, never understood how they go with turkey) corn, and pies(banana butterscotch, pumpkin, and sour cream and raisin)

My wife and I are going over to the FIL's for turkey dinner and to watch some football thursday afternoon. After we get back the wife and I will make a turkey breast, stuffing, and some german potato salad. I might deep fry the breast instead of roasting it. Next year we are planning on having venison as a main dish along with a deep fried turkey.
