Could have been a costly day
Deliver my paint foal yesterday afternoon to his new owner and got home about 4 hrs later and had a message to call the people that I sold him to. I called and the lady told me that the foal had jumped the fence and was gone. I jumped in the truck and drove down to her farm at 9:00pm last night and we drove the farm and back roads and could not found him anywhere. At the end of the road there was a 150acre farm that only had fence on the boader due to all woods and only used to hunt it. We gave up aorund 10:45pm last night.
Got up early and loaded my mare and JD gator into my cattle trailer and drove back out to her farm and drove into the woods for about 25mins and came to a hill side and shut the gator off. We could hear the foal at that point and had an idea of what direction he was in. We had to leave the gator running and walk about 2500 feet in a bottom and there he was. I walked him up the hill and to the gator and he followed my gator about 1 1/2 mile back to her farm, got to the farm looked him over and he had a small cut on his right front leg.
To have been in the woods since around 6:00pm last night and we found him about 9:00am this morning, we were lucky to have found him and he only cut on his front leg. A magor highway was on the only side of the woods and the fence on that farm is in poor shape.
I used the gator everyday since his birth so I know that sound he would know and he came running to that sound, he was worked up so bad that we coudl not get close enough to get a lead rope on him, but the people I sold him to could not belive that he followed my gator 1 1/2 miles thou the woods and lane back to her farm. I think I could have sold my John Deere gator for anything to them today. But it turned out to a good day, all night I was worried that if someone hit the horse that it come back on me or the people would want there money back if we could not found the horse.
I got to say God blessed us this morning greatly.

Hmmm... I'd say that was a pretty dirty trick, raising a homing pony and teaching it to run home after the sale.

Similar thing happened to me a few years ago. I sold a squirrelly Arab mare to a lady once. I delivered it and drove away. They told me later that the horse bolted and took off. They chased her for about an hour and a half before they caught her. I'm outta the horse scene now but if I ever deliver one again I'm going to make sure the horse is in the barn or corral eating a pail of oats before I drive away. Glad everything worked out good Cattle Hauler.

I have done the chase and find the horse as it is running from the barn. Found one alive after a day and one not after a week. None of them mine (mine like the heated stalls to much)!

I'm glad it turned out OK for everyone.

My sister had a miniature horse one time that was mean, stubborn and evil to the core. We finally had enough of the little bastard and put him up for sale. Some lady from Saltspring island came and looked at the little ***** and he was on his worst behavior while she was here... "Oh, he's so sweet, such a cutie, and SO well behaved" she said. "Ok, load him up!" 'Couple days later the phone rings... "He bites, kicks, and he's mean. I want my money and expenses back on a 30 day exchange policy. My kids are scared of him!" "You wanted him, we showed you how he behaves. CLICK!" End of problem...

Had similar problem couple years ago only with the onry black and white ones. Couple of show heifers came up gone one morning oout of our pasture lot. Up here in nw oh it flat as a board, couldn't see them anywhere and no tracks or nothin. Once had a couple sly cattle jockeys pull in a load a couple up before while we were gone to town, so figured it might of happened again during the night. We called the sheriff and made out a report and all that garbage, we just figured that we'd never see them 2 heifers again. Two weeks later, the sherriff department calls up and says they found our 2 hiefers bout five miles away. Here the dumb holstiens were in a woods where no one could see em. Glad to hear yers worked out alright CH.
carty
