Common Places for Gooseneck Hitch Pop-Up Lock?
Common Places for Gooseneck Hitch Pop-Up Lock?
Alright. I have had my truck a year now and I've never had to use the gooseneck hitch. But I'd like to know that I am able to when I have to.

I've tried to pop the hitch up, but it's either rusted very badly down in there or it's locked. I'm voting on the second option. Because we've soaked it in WD40 and even used a pipe on a jack stand positioned on the ball from under the truck to try to push it out... well, we had the truck off the ground and that thing still didn't budge.

Unfortunately, this was one question I forgot to ask the guy when I purchased my truck! I thought it'd be a no brainer to pop up!

Check in the front of the left rear driver's side wheel well to see if there's a lever in there to release the ball.

Re:Common Places for Gooseneck Hitch Pop-Up Lock?
spekaing of gooseneck hitches...... I am thinking about putting a hitch in my truck. I want to do it myself, but am not sure how hard it will be to get the bed raised on my truck. ???

It is a short box 1500 Dodge Ram. I plan to weld a piece of heavy channel across the frame, but I am pretty sure I will need to raise at least the rear of the bed to get this accomplished. How many bolts, and how many other parts will I need to remove to get the bed raised up to install the channel? All tips are appreciated. ;D

I got a B&W gooseneck hitch, and got it installed without moving the bed or anything. I did take out the spare to make it easier to get to though. It just bolted right in, and then had the guy at the trailer place tighten up the bolts I couldn't reach very well. You shouldn't have to weld anything (as far as I know)

-SFB

Also, what type design is it?

I am trying to get out pretty cheap since I probably won't be keeping the truck a whole bunch longer. I figure I can get a piece of 6" channel for $30 or so, and then all I will need is the ball. I already have a 6 pin plug, but will probably need a brake controller installed.

There is no lever inside of the wheel well, that's what puzzles me.
I've had several people look at it and no one can figure it out.

TXBobcat,

I have installed my Putnum Popup Gooseneck hitch now on two Dodges on the 96 1500 and my CTD 97 2500. The 2500 was much easier and both were bolt up to existing holes in the frame. 5 holes in the bed 1 - 3" and 4 - 5/8" for the breakaway chains U bolt.
