Cold Country & Cruise Control

Please read and tell every member of your family, especially young & OLD drivers.
Every winter in Nebraska we pick up the pieces of folks that leave the cruise on, hit ice, snow, or wet covered roads, and end up in the ditch or worse. I80 is 75MPH and most do 85mph. Thanksgiving weekend we lost 3 "locals" that had left their cruise control on. Christmas is a particularly bad time due to holiday travel. When you have to use your wipers turn the cruise off.
When the surface is wet, or icy any slow down in vehicle speed will result in the cruise control trying to "catchup" putting more power to the wheels just when you don't need it. More power then tries to bring the rear end around, so you hit the brakes to shut off the cruise control. Now you are not going to recover, unless your very lucky or your last name is Earnhardt.
Front wheel drive is alittle safer than RWD, but not much.
Please tell everyone you know to "Turn off the cruise if you have to use the wipers or the roads are icy.

ANOTHER POINT, THOUGH:
GOOD TIRES --- In my truck, which has 3900 lbs on the rear axle, would break loose on wet roads even with me controling the fuel. I put new tires on (the old ones weren't even showing cords, yet
Kind of a family trait
) and it hasn't done it since.

good point. never gave that much thought.
during rain or slick roads we always turn off the engine brake on the fire trucks (or in my case the transmission brake). it is amazing how fast even a 78,000 lb truck can slide the rear duals.
