Chrysler/Fiat Deal Another Step Closer

Saw this at another forums and thought I would pass it on here. Probably won't affect us too much; Chrysler will get more small cars and engines out of this deal than anything else. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this.

Big observation - note that Case IH products have nearly ceased to use cummins (CDC) engines and are now almost exclusively IVECO. If they get a hold of Chrysler - guess what else might use IVECO engines as well?

Time for a Fiat Panda diesel! I can hall it in my bed when not in use.

Anything is better than nothing. Least their CEO hasn't bailed....yet.

What Models? All the Steigers still have Cummins, the MX Magnums have the 8.3L, or 9.0L Cummins. The MXM's all have the 6.7L Cummins And the smaller MXU's have a 4.5L cummins

Even though this is old news (July 07), this could bring them one more step closer to bringing IVECO overseas.

Well, there are IVECOs with the trusty cummins B-series engine over here too- Tector and Cursor series.
Some of the bigger ones share a lot of parts with cummins AFAIK- only the injection system and peripherals are different. (even on iveco marine engines you will find b-series 5.9 blocks that use only different heat exchangers than cummins marine engines)
I think this can be a good move-or a bad one. Let's see what they will do. I can imagine that some econoboxes will find buyers. And maybe they will manage to get more of the chrysler product range to Europe...

I talked with a Sales Manager at our local Dodge Dealer today about this Fiat/Chrysler/ Dodge Merger. He feels this is all positive for Dodge/Chrysler.
He showed me some paperwork they have already received from Dodge about Fiat. According to some of what I read, Fiat is the second largest auto manafacturer in the world.

They also own 100% of Maserati, 85% of Ferrari, plus all their own Fiat Auto Plants. Additionally, as the other Members said, they also own Case, Iveco and New Holland Tractors. My friend is going to send me some more info on all of this and when I get it, I will try to post it up here for all of you. I think it will be a good thing for us Dodge CTD Truck Owners though.

P.S

Fiat has owned Case for WAY more than a year.

The CNH relationship goes back to about 1997 if I recall.

Check thier website - a friend is a dealer nearby, and from his info the Magnums, the Maxxums and some of the Steigers have already converted to Iveco. The backhoe loaders and skidsteers are also Iveco at this point.

The die may be cast, but you'd think Chrysler would have learned something with their last European merger experiment. But, regardless of what Chrysler management might want, Cerebus probably knows (and cares) less about automotive endeavors than about tax accounting and sub-prime loans (H&R Block).

I don't know if your friend is blind or not , but go stop by his dealership and pop open the hood on oh , lets say a maxxum 110. It won't take you very long to discover that it is a cummins engine under there.

Most of the NH combines here use Iveco engines.
