(must be something in the water around here, or maybe we're living over a uranium deposit )
Heck, that's nothin'. One of my cousins in Maine has a cat with 8 toes on each front paw. Thank God they got her declawed...

Palmetto, here's a tough [not to brite] dog for ya. He was a stubburn bird dog named Joe. Abrittany spaniel we took in as a stray. In the 6 or so years we had him he sired 21 pups that we know of. He wasn't a mean dog except to german shepards whom for some reason he would attack on sight! Never knew why, but he could see the neighbors german sheperds three feilds away and take off after them and send them packing too!
Any way, one day Joe got hit in the road , his 4th time and the vet said he had a broken back, broken pelvis , ruptured something
and was unconcious, in sever shock. He probably wouldn't last the night.
Next morning he was still alive, They took him out of the cage, put him down on the floor and he drug/staggered to the end of the hall and peed on the door!
The vet got the message and sent him home with instructions to keep him quiet and under observation.

Now this dog never walked anywhere, always a trot or a run.
Well, the next day I went to work and later my wife carried ol' Joe out side and put him on the ground to take care of business. And did he ever! She said he immediatly took of at a funny but quick hobble and was gone.

I got home for lunch just as the phone calls started coming in! Turns out Joe was worried about his business alright and made a perimider check of his territory, upon which all 5 0f the different neighborhood german sheperds at 5 different times got even and chewed him up to no end! The phone calls were the sheperd owners worried that after each fight ol Joe surely ran off somewhere to die!!
Picked 5 fights, in about three hours, got the worst of each fight , with the broken back and pelvis and all , but made it back home to tell about it! He was one tough dog and more than just a little bull headed.

Joe disappeared, 2 years later, I heard he was seen sunning himself on the front porch of a tavern a few towns over by day and sleeping out behind the barroom in the coppersmiths shop by night!
I think of him often but reminded even more often since he left me with a line of 16 dandy huntin dogs.
