Burglary Victim Drives Off in Thieves' Getaway Van

Washington State Burglary Victim Drives Off in Thieves' Getaway Van

Saturday, February 14, 2009

BELLEVUE, Washington — A man in Washington state made sure a pair of burglars did not get away with his three flat-screen televisions — he moved their getaway car.

Patrick Rosario was in the basement of his Bellevue home on Tuesday when he heard the burglars upstairs.

The Seattle Times reported the 32-year-old Rosario, who had been laid off from his job as a Washington Mutual bank manager, called police while he sneaked out of the house.

He saw a white van sitting in front of his house with the motor running and the keys in the ignition, and he got in and drove it to a friend's house.

Police said the burglars left the televisions, a laptop computer and a jewelry box by the door and took off on foot.

The sheriff's office said no arrests had been made.

I hope the burglars were stupid enough to use their own van.

If the keys are in the ignition and the van is running, you cant be charged.

I know here in B.C the insurance company will not cover your truck under insurance if the keys are in the ignition.

I saw this on the local news and they played part of the 911 tape. From the report the 911 operator chastised the guy for taking the vehicle but I didn't get what was said.

The best part was the guy's laugh as he told the 911 operator that he had taken their vehicle while they were stealing his stuff. The news said that the responding officers gave the guy a high five.

I wonder if the arrests have been made yet or if the vehicle was stolen.
