Bought my winter heat supply today!

Got the Oliver running ( had to flush out the fuel tank.. nother story) and drug the gravity box down to the Elevator this am. They filled it up with about 180 bushels of corn. Should be enough to keep me warm untill spring, and sure beats buying propane. Total bill for corn was 573.39, used to use 1000+ gallons of propane a winter. Propane here is around 1.99 now.

I'll have to dig around and see if I can find any pics. But what I run is a American Energy Countryside corn (biomass) stove. Have used it to heat the house for two years now. here is a link to their web site http://www.magnumheat.com, there are other manufacterers (sp?), but this was the one I liked.
Even $5 corn is about half the price of propane, approx 5 gals of propane can be replaced with 1 bushel of corn.

Can a vented propane fireplace be replaced with a corn or pellet stove?

Yes they can. I have a corn stove and have looked into puting an insert in my fireplace as well but I dont use the room the fireplace is in enough to justify the cost. I have a little corn left from last year but I should pull my wagon down to the elevator and fill it as well. I Love my corn burner. It keeps my house a nice cumfy 75deg all winter and does it so much cheaper than the electric it replaced that I will never be without a corn stove.
