Blackstone Labs Oil analysis
Blackstone Labs Oil analysis
Not sure if this is the right forum for this post but here goes:
Has anyone sent their oil to Blackstone Labs (in Indiana) to get analyzed? Was is worth the cost (about $20)? Any comments are appreciated.
Re:Blackstone Labs Oil analysis
I've been having them analyze the oil from my Dakota for a while now. I have no complaints. They're the only company I've used so far so I can't compare to any others. Not sure who I'm going to have analyze the oil in the diesel.

Russ

Re:Blackstone Labs Oil analysis
Blackstone's price is beginning to get on the high side - there are other outfits that provide more test info for less money, like TBN values...

I'm locked into Blackstone for at least one more cycle, since I need to test my next oil change since addition of a Frantz bypass oil filter, and it's better for the sake of fair comparison to use the same outfit to compare before/after numbers - but after that, I'm looking for a less expensive test outfit - doesn't seem reasonable to spend nearly as much for the test as I do for the oil change...
Re:Blackstone Labs Oil analysis
I have been using Blackstone Labs for the last 7 years, on my previous Ford 6.9 diesel and now on my Dodge. My cost was $17 for a long time, went up to $18 a few months ago. Never used anyone else though...

Tom

Link to Blackstone Labs
Here is a link to Blackstone Labs. I do not have a URL for any other places...
Blackstone will send you the sampling container, shipping container to send it back to them and the paperwork of what pertinent data to include about your truck, engine, oil type, etc.., all free of charge. You then pay the shipping cost, usually <$1.75, and in about 2 - 3 weeks you get your results back. On the paperwork you return to them with your sample, you can include your credit card info to pay for the report.
