Anyone play with or fly these??????

hey all.. in addition to the truck I play around with these little toys.. It will probably beat most of the trucks out there from 0-60... and has a top speed of around 70 to 75 MPH forward and 40 or 50 backwards (before the tail decides it wants to follow instead of leading.. Right side up or upside down it doesn't care and is just happy to be in the air.. (well most of the time..)

Here it is without the canopy on...

Used to fly a .30 size one. More maintenance/crash repair than I cared to handle, compared to fixed wing R/C aircraft.

Now I'm into R/C Monster Trucks, again about .30 size.
WAY more fun!

Used to fly small planes with a 2 cylinder 4 stroker in it. Could hold that plane vertical on its prop!! Was a lot of fun, but crazy $$$$$

Is that a gass one ??? I used to fly rc Warbirds with a guy that had the Horizon gass one with the Zenoah 23. It was really cool and he could do some amazining stuff with it.
My son has a micro electric. Flies it in the house!! It's pretty neat. He is trying to get me into the electric heli too.
I think I'll stay with the big warbirds. Easier to fly.
A club near me has a couple heli guys and they are just fun to watch. The one guy gets so low inverted that I think he will cut the grass. How do you do that?? I've had the Corsair down below 3 feet and it scares me to death. I do it with a little up trim and let it settle into a shallow dive with the up trim it gradually pulls out without me doing much. Looks like I'm really doing some fancy piloting but it is just a bluff haha. One day I'll catch a hole inthe air and leave a hundred yards of airplane on the ground.

Nice chopper

Not a gasser.. It is a 60 size glow engine.. puts out about 2.2 hp..

these things actually fly better upside down.. and how close to the ground you get is usually just how confident you are.. Me I never really get closer than 3 feet or so.

After flying these I tried the RC car/truck thing and wound up spending more money on repairs for the cars than with the helicopter.. Those darn things were always needing belts, brakes, tires or something... This helicopter has been around for a few years and is pretty much maintence free.. Keep it clean and oiled and it is ready to go for the next day.. fuel runs about $25.00 per day.

It took about 6 months to learn to hover it and move it around slowly then after that I just kept it real high so I had time to recover and fix my mistakes.. Had my first crash about 7 months after I started and it was due to a broken servo wire.. Since I have had a few more crashes now mostly due to Dumb thumbs when to close to the ground doing flips or something.

Fun to fly and doesn't have to be crash expensive if you have patients and training wheels...

I started playing with a Blade CX a couple months ago for something to do on rain days. Cheaper to learn on. Maybe some day I'll get a real one.

Nice heli you got there,I want one,but they are to exspensive and I would prolly crash them alot. I will stick to my Electric and Nitro off-road R/Cs.

RC stuff is really fun. I've been doing it many years. I actually had a control-air 10 channel reed way back.
My sons and I are building a 118" B-25 and we have a Ziroli P-51 with a 5.8 in it. The P-51 is really fast. I'm sure way over 100. My Corsair was tops 85.
The B-25 will have bomb bay with bomb drop, turret, cockpit detail and all the other standard scale detail. About 48 pounds we hope. We are looking at onboard video too. There is some really nice stuff now and not too expensive. Look into it for your chopper. I doubt the chopper could be flown from the "dark house " video game stuff but the airplanes can. We talked to a guy/company at Toledo that sells a really cool RPV system. We may do that instead but it costs a lot more. and you need a no code ham license.

Have fun

I was involved with a team in college that built 2 of them for the SAE Areo compitition. Ran on a .61 size glow, had to be built to their rules, and was intended to pickup weight. Payload weights were exceeding 20lbs with 120" wingspan. Foam cored wings, carbon and fiberglass reinforced, with a balsa sheathing, all epoxed together in a vacum bag. It was neat stuff.
If any one is interested here is the link.

Now I have a .90 sized one in the basement I have to put electronics in and learn how to fly.

Herrin 821, you can buy the Blade CX like I've got, brand new for just under $200.00 out-the-door. Buy an extra battery and the landing trainer, more fly time and fewer crashes until you learn. It's great on rain days, just fly around the house.

A few years ago I worked with USC and their robotic helicopter.. It was pretty fun.. I was a backup pilot for the computer.. If it went haywire I would take over..

That thing was amazing..

At the begining we had to hover it and then switch it to the computer.. you could point a mouse on a map on the computer and it would fly to that spot. with full video and GPS.. Later it would work with a couple of Robotic cars doing a perimiter security scenario which included video recoginition and Friend or foe stuff..

The really cool part is the guy that designed the software got his doctoriate and went to work for JPL/NASA.. He then built another and went on to design a single camera 3D terrain mapping system that was (as far as I know) was used on one of the mars landers..

Scale is GREAT..

One of the things I have wanted to do but have just not found the time to start is build a scale SEA KING and paint it up like the Los Angeles County Rescue helicopter AIR 5.

I am almost afraid to start it because I if I do it I will spend way to much time on it.. I plan on scale rivit lines, cocpits, Paramedinc bay, and maybe even a working winch line...

The Fiberglass part will be OK a long time ago I learned how to mold fiberglass (I made the mold and made the canopy on this heli). and I have become OK with an Airbrush.. I have a pretty cool canopy with flames but am afraid to put it on.. I don't want to see it after an unintended landing
