Anyone here have a winch?
I have a warn 9000i mounted on the warn transformer system. It has worked flawlessly, always has pulled me out of a mudhole. I have pulled treestumps up with it. Been my third warn winch and never had any problem. Can't say that about the piece of junk mile marker i have on my trailer. It broke the first time it was used and is very slow. I would not buy another even though they are cheaper, You get what you pay for.
For the CTD, I wouldn't get anything less than the 12,000. Milemarker has their 12,000# hydraulic winch for about 870.00 at 4 wheel parts.
I agree with Red, the electric ones aren't as good.

I have a Warn 9500i on my truck. It was about $900. The stainless transformer winch mount was about $650, minus headlight guards. They were another $300, so I decided to wait on those. I've only pulled my truck out once, but pulled everything else you can think of. Great winch. You may can see part of it in my gallery.
I have a Ramsey RE12000, it is slow BUT power is slow.
I'll put it up against any Warn made, Mile Markers are pure junk.
I have pulled about everything you can think of and it's still workin fine
after 10 years A RE12000 from Ramsey refurbished for $931.93 w/fairlead.

I have the M15000 on the back of mine. Has been flawless. It has the power to pull the truck with the brakes locked up if you hook to something to heavy. I use it much, pulling cars up on the trailer. Do put a large enough cable on it.

Drawback is you have to have the engine running for them to work.
I have a Warn 12K, and haven't had a problem yet.
Ok, it hasn't been used quite as much as I expected, but the times it has been called upon, it answered the call.

I have one of the early Ramsey QuickMount 5K units. With a good pulley it has been quite servicable. It usually rides around on the reciever hitch mounted to the tongue of the gooseneck and, like Hauling in Dixie, it is used for yanking stuff on to the trailer. A friend of mine has a Ramsey REP? 12K that he uses on his farm truck. We have used it for a little bit of everything over the years.
With winches you definitely get what you pay for. As for hydraulic winches - what does every rollback made come with? I am seriously considering a MileMarker setup for my Scout. Until then a little prudence, a good pulley, and the QM5000 should work well enough.
Of course, one can never have too much pulling power - ain't that why we all drive CTDs?

Can it be mounted in the rear under the bed as opposed to the gooseneck in the bed?
If so can it stay there even while pulling a trailer (not a fiver)?
I'd rather have it there out of the way so I can put a plow on sometime, plus for safety, also to do what you say, use it to pull stuff onto a trailer.
I'll probably get something 12k lbs or above.
Thanks again,
DT.

The QM series come bolted to a receiver tube with quick-connect power leads. They are now up to 9K pull rating but they are HEAVY! Link below says 115 pounds and it is an awkward weight.

To sling around a 12K winch setup as a detachable mount would require a rather large fella (or two) to handle it at 135 pounds.
