Adopt a soldier
Recently, my wife and myself have adopted a soldier. It is one small way to help those fighting for our freedoms. Whether or not you agree with the war, these men and women don't have the luxury of deciding... They are there doing their jobs... for us. We write a letter a week, and send one package a month to our soldier who is stationed at Camp Phoenix, Afghanistan. He is a combat medic. The soldiers ask for very small things like socks, candy, magazines... things they miss from home. For those interested, go to SoldiersAngels.org and sign up. I hope this is OK with the admins that I'm promoting this.

Talk is cheap!! You'd be suprised how a service member can watch people die and never change expressions, but a letter from a perfect stranger that says "We support you...thank you for xxxxx xxxxx" will make them break down bawling.

My 10 year old son is doing something kind of like that at school. He has a soldier he gets to write letters to each week and he occasionally writes back. They have develped quite a bond, and I think its neat.

Very true. My soldier has only contacted me via email a few times and I can tell him and his men are extremely thankful for the small packages we send. I continue to try to cheer them up and I hope it works. The organization that runs this wants you to be positive and never talk about the negative things you hear on tv about the war. They have to live thru it, we don't need to remind them. I try to tell them about my life here and how grateful everyone I know is to them for their service to our country. I feel sad when they tell me they need socks... I mean.. I have a drawer jammed full of socks... makes me feel guilty. Anyhow, it's just a really small way we can help and show them our support. Some of these guys/gals don't have much family and they get no packages from home. Help em' out if you can. btw- I use the priority mail boxes which cost around $8 to send anywhere in the world with just about any amount of weight you can safely stuff into the box. Post office will deliver a box full of (boxes) ten or twenty for free right to your house.
