Angry Fly United again, I think not!

Well boys and girls, this has been a day. If any of you have any thoughts of flying on United Airlines, let me suggest instead taking a 3 pound hammer and crushing your fingers, one at a time. Trust me, it will be less painful!!! We checked in at Birmingham this morning and upon arrival found out it was self service only and the attendant was abrupt at best. We boarded the plane and the flight crew was nice, flight was smooth as was the take off and landing. Arrived in Denver to a cluster! We arrived at gate 49 with a scheduled departure from gate 43 1.5 hours later. We went immediately to gate 43 and ten minutes later we're told the gate for departure has been changed to 47. Gate 47 shares the seating with gate 49, where we started out. We walked across the concourse from gate 47 just about 60 or 70 feet, to get a cup of coffee while we waited for our plane. Twenty five minutes before departure we walked back across to gate 47. Several other passengers and 2 gate attendants were sitting there chatting. With 15 minutes to departure a young lady runs up to one of the attendants and asked if this gate was for the flight to Seattle. Well, that's when WE found out United changed the gate, AGAIN!!! Now we have to get from 47 to 25. This is when I'd like to have a direct line to some overpaid CEO. We had to cover about 400 yds. to get to what is NOW the correct gate, again. Did I mention my wife recently had foot surgery and is in a plastic boot and has a distinct limp because of that. Upon arrival at gate 25 I asked the ticket agent if she thought we might move, again. I guess I wasn't the first to do that but I'm pretty confident I was the last. Man, was that lady a grump. So we board the plane and it's not even full. The row immediately in front of us is at an emergency exit and it's empty. Just before we were to close the door and push off the ramp I asked one of the flight attendants if we could move forward one row. Before she could answear, you guessed it, the witch from the boarding area appeared behind me. Well she had an answear, even though she wasn't asked (no, you can't move because those seats cost more). There's nobody in them, the plane is loaded and it's an emergency exit isle. Don't you need someone to open the door, I asked? She informed me if we had a problem the flight attendants would just run over and open them. Sure they will I thought. This just got worse, even though I didn't think it could. It was so bad that the flight attendants came over and appologized after we left the gate. The rest of this leg to Seattle went smooth until we arrived. The new Denver airport bosts the newest in security and other technology, so it makes sense that they would keep our luggage there when we were in Seattle, go figure. So here we are, no clean clothes, no patience left and no satisfaction, YET!!! Sad to say we still have to fly back on United. The only two positives so far, Hertz gave us a great upgrade and we have a whole week with our neice and nephew before entering the gauntlet, again! Y'all have a great night. I'll get back to you a little later.

Can it get any better?

About 9 pm last night the delivery service called to ask if they could deliver our bags in the morning, their truck was broke down. First they said they could get here between 7 and 9:30 in the morning, next it was by 8 am. My wife was pitching a hissy in the background but I said OK. Thirty minutes later they called back to say they had foung a driver, I thought the truck was broke, but they would bring the bags out tonight. They would be there between midnight and two, well closer to 2 they finally said. OK great, I said, just leave them on the porch and I'll get them in the morning. I thought that was clear enough. So here I am, napping on the couch by the front door, 2:30 am, in the morning, ding dong, ding dong, the door bell is ringing!!! Well, the bags are here.

Pretty much why I have my own plane. No potty, no peanuts, but I leave when I want, arrive when I get there, and leave whenever, all at gate #1. Way more fun than sitting in an airport.

I'd rather have a helocopter and just go door to door.

I'm a fan of Southwest and Frontier if I have to fly. If the destination is within 8 hours I fly the Cummins powered jet

Corporate jet sales are increasing rapidly do to the hassles of air travel for reasons already stated. I was able to fly on a corporate jet once, pulled up, loaded bags, strapped in, and took off in about 15 minutes.

Discovery channel did a 2 hour show which talked alot about United and their Chapter 11. They raided the employee pension program to pay for attorneys, etc. Not my favorite company.

Flame suit on...

At least the same airline gave you your luggage! When i flew home from alberta in august, i flew home with Canjet , because it was under 200$ one way, Upon arriving home in moncton , only one piece of my luggage came off the plane... Talked to the airport authority , they took my info , etc, said they would get Canjet to call me, ok , great. Next day , there is a message on my phone from Westjet , in CALGARY (other side of the continent) and they think they have my luggage, she explained in the phone message that she went online , typed my name in , and found a match for my last name close to the address she found on some stuff in my luggage, hence the message on the phone, I called back , confirmed that it was my luggage , got the details from westjet , and called canjet. I told them that i had found my own luggage , and it was in Calgary, and that westjet had it... after a long pause on the other end , they asked me what i wanted to do , umm , BRING MY LUGGAGE TO ME, i gave them the contact for the lady at Westjet , so they called , and got Westjet to fly my luggage across the country ( I did not even fly westjet ) in the end , i got my luggage , and everything was intact, actually better than i had packed it , when the lady from Westjet searched my luggage trying to figure out who i was , she took the liberty of folding my clothes , organizing papers , etc.

After it was all said and done , i called the lady at Westjet again , and thanked her for folding my clothes , and to tell her that next time , i would be flying with Westjet , no matter the cost.

JKM, first thought I had, Sure glad he washed the undies before he packed.

Geico, the boy is already trying to get me to go halves with him on a 152/172. I told him he is being a bit premature since he has about 2 hours logged, but the boy the way he is.......

Ed

Remember the lack of luggage success with Braniff???

An airline ticket todays costs exactly what it did 20 years ago. The flying public voted with their wallets and now complain about the service they receive. I'm not saying the attitude displayed by some of the ground people in the initial post is excusable because it is not. Also, your bag should arrive with you at your destination but the system is not perfect. At times, TSA, not the airline, is the reason your bad does not arrive. How are ticket prices the same when the costs of running a plane have doubled? One of the ways was to take from the employees. They are making half the money they were 20 years ago and they're working harder for it, as they watch worthless CEOs give themselves raises. I'm not trying to excuse the attitude and the rudeness with which you were treated, just trying to educate a bit about what some of us have gone through.
