From the title alone, I figured YOU had unearthed an old '57 from an old barn somewhere and were digging through a time capsule of personal belongings of whoever stored it in the barn.
Where did you see this about the '57???

We inherited a '50 Plymouth Special Deluxe like that. My Father-in-law went up to Iowa to clean out the family farmhouse and barn after his brother died. This old '50 was stashed in the back of the barn under a bunch of detritus. He dug it out, towed it to town and had the battery, fluids and tires changed and gastank cleaned. Fired it up and he drove it back here to Corpus Christi in 1986.
It still had all kinds of ancient family personal "junk" stashed in the trunk and such. A time capsule of sorts.

This is the story right here. I did see a thing on TV about it a few years ago.

Wonder what steps were taken to make sure it doesn't come up a rusty hunk. Being underground, no ultraviolet damage, but man, moisture could wreck havoc.

I went to the link that homestead posted, it has a video about it and it shows the car being put in and then they covered with tarps and the engine is covered then it shows them shooting some kind of material around the car. Not sure if it was sand or something else. It will be interesting to see what it looks like when it comes up.
