4th child here soon - vehicle recommendations?

Our 4th (and last, I finally get my boy) child will be here in a couple of weeks. Now, unless someone can tell me how I can safely put 2 car seats, and 2 skinny-as-a-rail kids in the back seat of my '01, I'll need to get something bigger. And I'd prefer something with lots of steel and a diesel. The only thing I can think of is a Ford Excursion. Is there something I'm overlooking? And please don't tell me to get a bus

Mega-Cab- - - -Auto with fold down center console. Get a Bed Cap that will help keep the bring alongs dry. The back seat has enough room for 3 Kids + car seat. Rear DVD Entertainment (Barney)!!!!

Wait a couple of Months and there are going to be some major offerings in the Diesel market. Right now you could settle for a used Durango/Expedition/ Oh yea DIESEL! Well in that case Excrusion with the 7.2 PowerStroke. Slow as snail slime but it will get you there and back.

Nothing that big in the US has a Diesel unless you put it in yourself, or you get an Ex*******.

That many kids wouldn't even fit into a big car. You need an SUV of some sort. (And no mini-vans; whoever recommended the Honda Oddesy: you're out of the club house. ) And since AMC never made any SUV's, I don't have suggestions I can make.

What about a Suburban, lots to choose from, when the Dura packs it up, put in a Cummins. People are paying way too much for those diesel X's IMHO.

Since you guys keep having kids how about seperate cars & seperate houses?

I'm kidding of course.

Congrats on the newbie.

Honda or Toyota vans are the best.

As much as I hate mini-vans, a friend just bought a new Toyota Sienna and I gotta say it's a pretty nice vehicle. He loves it. Pull the back seats and you can haul pretty much anything. Not sure if a 4X8 sheet of plywood would fit but it'd be close. If I needed a vehicle with lots of passenger capacity, I'd probably buy one too.

Suburban up thru 99 will be a 6.5. Nobody wants them, but I think they are great. Wonderful as a grocery-getter or on a family vacation with the whole crew and luggage tooling down the interstate at 70 mph and getting 20+ mpg. The diesel page will help you maintain the 6.5 just as this page does your Cummins.

Tough one - My fiance would never go for it but I'd be on board with a sprinter van. There is one that is actually quite short (118" WB). That has 2 rows of 3, + driver/passenger....I think.

I got mine priced out with dual batteries, 200 amp alternator, high idler, and the whole 9 yards for 34k msrp. I have no idea what this option is Click to select this option.

Auxiliary Belt Drive
$297.00

Otherwise a mega cab but while I dont have kids yet dont think I would really want 1 right next to me while driving.....

leave the wife and kids at home where she belongs....

The Odesse is a good van. For the immediate solution, putting two car seats in the back and the oldest child to keep them occupied. your truck is rated for 6 people.

Put the kids up for adoption, before they outgrow cuteness and adoptability, or rob a bank, or turn into junkies; then, you can keep the truck.

The engine is flat belt.

The auxilliary drive is a V-belt drive, beside the flat, so V-belt accessories can be added, without the usual hassle of doing so.
