3M tape removal
Go to just about any hardware, grocery, auto parts, Wal Mart etccc. and get yourself a $4 bottle of Goo-Gone. That stuff will take tar off the road if you let it sit long enough. Just spray a little on a dry cloth, hold it on the sticky spot for a minute or two, then whipe the adhesive away. DO NOT SPRAY DIRRECTLY ON YOUR PAINT as this stuff will also remove any wax job you have so try to keep it as local as possible.
Try a blow dryer to loosen the tape and solvent or goo gone or whatever to get rid of the sticky crap.
If there is just a little, a cleaner wax is pretty safe be cause it won't damage your paint.
I wouldn't use a heat gun because it may lift your paint.

The fine folks who make PB Blaster penetrating oil make a product called DSR. I used it with great success on a large dealer emblem that was held on with what looked to be 3M trim tape.

Not sure what youre trying to remove but a co-worker just suggested turning one of those cans of air used for cleaning keyboards upside down and freezing it off. Then using hairspray to remove the residuals.
