As much as a lot of people would like, the Power Wagon hasn't ever came with a diesel, at least from what I recall. It's unfortunate too considering they would get better mileage with a diesel.

I once had a 47 Power Wagon with a flathead Ferd V8 in it. Pretty hard to make mileage when 48 mph is flat out, praying for rain, pistons changing holes.

If I remember correctly the reason they didnt use a diesel because of the location of the winch in the factory bumper would interfere with the inter-cooler

That makes sense. I read that somewhere a while back. With a bigger and better bumper I think it would work.

wish they still offered the 540 RPM PTO in the rear like they did in the late 40s and early 50s . Uncle had an old one and he pulled a bush hog with it one summer when the tractor broke down

When they first started building it they claimed it was because of the weight.

It'd be pretty hard to beat a Power Wagon with a 4BT engine for a work mule. Can't be much heavier than a V8 gasser.

The old 4 speed pickup transmissions were the same as the 1 1/2 and 2 ton trucks. They all had at least one PTO mounting spot . You could get any speed, or multiple speeds, or even multiple speed and reverse pto's for them and just bolt them on.

Those trannies were heavy, like 150 lbs or so.
