2005 Ram-1500

2005 Ram 1500/ Hemi

How do you access the diagnostic codes on a gas-powered truck,
Does anybody have the codes?

My son has a 2005 1500 Ram /Hemi and the Check Engine Light came on so his wife took it to the dealer, they checked the codes and it said the EGR valve needs to be replaced (I did not know that they wore out within 2 years) anyhow they wanted $300.00 to replace it so I called Dodge and I can get the EGR valve pn. # 53032509AM for $79.00 and it should take my no more than 20 minuets to replace it.

I told her to not get fixed there and I will get the part and they charger her $100.00 just to check the codes.

I learned a few things on this truck like the hidden spin-on oil filter inside the transmission.

After anything is replaced does the computer need to be reset.

Does anybody know of a good website for newer Gas trucks like DTR that you don’t have to dig through inflated lies and stories to find bits of truth?

Thanks Jim

To get the codes turn the key on then off then on then off then on and they sould display in the odomter you can go to allpar.com to look them up to see what they mean. Also any autozone or advance auto will get them for you for free. As far as resetting them the aforementioned stores will do it for free or I just unhook the neg cable of the battery for around 10 min and that will do it also. In the repair section of allpar.com they have a good writeup up on this process.

I think someone told me one time on my 04 hemi that I could clean that and it was a part of routine maintenance or to "do as needed" type thing.

Unless it was something else they were refering to..... But I think EGR is what it was.

For the code stuff I'd just take it to autozone quick, easy, free.
