Question 2005 Dodge 1500 v-8 questions??

My dad is looking into buying a standard cab, long bed, 2 wheel drive 1500 dodge. He would like to know what experiances anyone has had/heard with the 4.7l v-8 and the Hemi. Which is better, what MPG people are getting with either, stuff like that. Which one would you like to have in your truck? He's not looking to haul but around town, just a reliable daily driver with good MPG and maybe some light towing.

We have the same engine 4.7 Magnum in our 03 Durango (not your RAM 1500), it gets about 13-14mpg on average. We can sometimes get 16-17 hwy with a tail wind, it would pull our old popup camper just fine in the mtns of Colorado (approx weight 2200lbs with gear) I think it's a good engine but it depends on the trans, we have the new for 03 5 speed auto with 4th and 5th being OD, hit the OD off button and your stuck in 3rd for towing, a must with this trans. I would like to feel the engine pull behind a standard trans, my recomendations anyway.
