2005 Mazda 3
they dont have to be done on car, they can be removed. you need to remove the caliper and caliper brackets. depending on if the rotors have not been off in a while they may be a little tuff to get off. just take a hammer and hit the rotor between the wheel studs and it should come right off.
Yup, I had the same car your talking about, and as a matter of fact my wife drives a 07 Mazda 3 now. The rotos will not just slide off, but if you wack them a few times with a ballpeen hammer it will come loose.

Did the fronts today. I was a little disappointed when I pulled the calipers. One outer pad was at 35-40% remaining, all the rest were better. Aside from the rotors being warped from my wife's aggressive driving, we could have easily gotten another 15+ thousand miles out of the pads. Since I already had the new pads I got the rotors turned and hung the new pads. the car brakes straight and true, no more fighting the wheel. Went back with Mazda's value line pads, free lifetime replacement from now on, $40.86 including tax.
FWIW, the car has 90k on the ticker. The removal was straight forward, two bolts holding the caliper and whack the rotor a few times with the 3 pounder. I have to admit, I did have a little help. My daughter picked up the pads on her way through town so my grandson helped me a little. His first try at auto mechanics, glad it was Grandma's car!
