Man, you would think by now that I lead a boring life compared to the rest of you. DW and I started out the evening with a bottle of Moët & Chandon (bubbly) we were given for a wedding gift 2.5 yrs ago then we played pool (billiards not bubbly) for an hour and then we had NY steak from our 4H steer with BBQ spuds and coleslaw with some Shiraz Cab to wash it down.
Not a pyrotechnic device to be found anywhere nearby.
We had a couple of rough years a while back so our goal for the last 2 years has been a 'No EMS' Christmas and New Years. We are only 3 hours from a 2 year wining streak on that goal even though I was building welded gates and 'Yote hunting on the quad yesterday.
Here is to wishing, hoping and helping (if possible) y'all have a really good 2012. A year ago today I was lurking in the dragon's kennel when she wasn't in there. Now I am out there front and centre with the rest 'a y'all. I am not sayin I am the same quality or caliber as the rest of you, but I will try hard for enthusiasm points.
Who knows, when it comes to sausage making or understanding Canucks (especially my neighbor Scotty), I may even be able to add the occasional word of wisdom or wit.

Ok Story time for Bark as requested

One time I put the entire base on alert simply playing with some bottle rockets

I was in my office and another Sgt came by to see how things were going as I had the Duty that night.....I had a stash of bottle rockets and looking out the side window of my office we determined they had sufficient range to reach the guardshack.....

My window was one of those old multiple pane windows with a hand crank that raised and lowered the louvers allowing us excellent elevation control over our weapon of choice.

We fired off one and it sailed straight at the Guard shack exploding about 15 ft short of reaching it at about knee level. I turned the crank on the window bringing her up a half a click and started firing for effect

The poor sentry dove into the shack for cover because he believed he was taking incoming rounds Unfortunately before we could get him in on the joke he used the phone to alert that the base was under attack and I had to tell the CO I had seen nothing but heard what appeared to me to be fireworks

Geesh we were lucky that night but if I had it to do all over again I doubt I could have done it any differently... Bored Soldiers and Fireworks are NOT a good match

Well, here on the eve of 2012, is my little story.

Had a wedding at our training room tonite. Found out that really good champaine is nothing like the really cheap champayne and that I LIKE the really goof shampeen. In the course of reminissing... remenys... remembering my youth, I related the times we used to fill a ballon with acteylene and oxygen, put it in a paper bag, light the bag on fire and watch it blow up.

Did you know a truck inner tube filled with the same mixture of acetilean and oxeejin thrown on a bonfire makes a really, REALLY BIG boom? Like the window shattering, earth cratering kinda boom.

Did you also know you can see a shock wave even in the dark?

And you wouldn't believe how far flaming pallets will fly across a cornfield!
