My draftman was a former aircraft mechanic. He said during mechanic school, the first 4 weeks, everyone worked the chow hall, so they had to get up earlier to prepare for the guys that has already started classes. then after chow was over, they hit their classes. Is that the way it is with your chow hall Hat?

I dont know if its so much that I am appreciated, as required. the company has kept me so busy with these two projects that is now turning into a third that I haven't be able to teach anyone anything about the equipment. therefore Im that much more in demand.

MRE's... No thanks. I've had my fill of them.

When I was a recruit, Marines ran the chow hall, and recruits worked there durring team week. Now, civilians run it, and hire cheep labor.

Bout to score some lunch myself...

Mornin all

It's trying to rain here, just spitting a little now but cloudy and chilly. I guess a typical fall day.

Hat is your chow hall personnel contracted out? Sounds like it is. It's like anything else, you get what you pay for.

To do list seems to be getting longer every day. I think the wife is adding to it while I'm not watching.

Skunks and porcupines are starting to move around a lot now. Have to keep the dog tied up when she's out. Don't need a stinky dog or one with a face full of quills.

Have fun and drive safe.

Welcome to the world of the lowest bidder.

After spending time around the world, I believe you get what you pay for. Everywhere outside the US, service is better. in some cases its different, but I think the people actually take a different approach to their jobs.

If you cant smell them over the chow and from the otherside of the chowline, I would say you have a pretty good group.

Now, see, what you ain't gettin is... This is a MARINE CORPS chow hall. We have a running cadence that is older than I am...
"They say that in the Marine Corps, the chow is mighty fine...
The chicken jumps off the table, and starts-a-markin time..."

For example: (this is gonna be a long post...)

When I was a LCpl (E-3) and lived in the barracks, I ate at the chow hall, and they had employed... "mentally disabled" people to work there. One day, I noticed a disturbance at the salad bar, one of my friends had found a field mouse in the big salad bowl. He lifted it up with the tongs, and said, "What is this crap, lady!?!" She, (one of the "Special" employes) says, "Oh, don't worry, they just eat cheese..."
Don't take this as me bashing mentally handicapped people, I think that it's good that they go out and get jobs, my mom used to work at a place that housed and employed mentally handicapped people, but, food service? Especially the guy that served the mashed potatoes, I think that he had terrets or something...

Had some sushi for lunch, my boss is married to a Japanese lady, and she works there. Good stuff, I think. Healthy, too. Except for the beer that I had with it...

FAT KID????? me??????

The most Ive ever weighted in my life was after three years of hitting teh gym daily and pumping iron, protien shakes and weight gainers daily... got up to a screaming 198 lbs!!!!!!! I still wear the same size pants I did in 6th grade( many many many years ago)

The equine dentist just left, seems my mare has two broken molars! The only thing I can figure is she must have bite down on teh chain latch on the gate and yanked her head back....but at least she is OK and can be ridden. the breaks were so sharp, they sliced teh inside of her mouth up pretty good, and is probably why she flipped over on me last week.

Well, I got more chores waiting, see yall later......

Talking Yowza! Aren't We all gnarly in here this week!?!

I feel like I have left the teenagers at home alone a wee bit too long!!!

Reading here is better than the newspapers...

ChrisR, nasty bit about your mare, ouch! they don't pull the teeth anymore, do they? cost- leeee dentist stuff! ol timers in Tennessee would plug chew tobacco in the broken tooth for killing the nerve then file the tooth flat. I never really knew who got the whiskey they used to always have sitting on the post....

MADhatter boy! Good to hear you are back in the spirit of De Corp...sorry to hear you have gone the way of prison food though (quick chill)
ech! convicts don't even want to come back anymore, might as well eat tofu...

GEICO my friend, glad to see ya post and thought of you at reno air show. we didn't find Steve fossett and we can't mention the government involvement. awesome machines!!!! just awesome!!

done well in Virginia City this year, wrangled media, rich people, camels , ostriches and emus- too busy to ride. played judge, jury and EMT too. too many fun times and fabulous people out there! in Vegas, visited some cops and DTR members; even won some money. did a audience bit for magician Steve Warwick and next year I am setting up a hot tub in camel camp cause we sure could use some rest!! sad that they rounded up the wild mustangs cause someone complained about them eating their flowers but all in all an seat of the pants great time wooeee!
politicians can afford more flowers.....IMHO

held over at an unexpected invite-got to study a problem behavior of a white wolf at a zoo, they let me watch some surgical procedures of the big siberian tiger and help with an ocelot (cat that could ruin your day) nail trim. I used to think it would be cool to pet a tiger, now I will just run the other way. LOT OF RESPECT! Here's a pic of me finding out that elephants get 62.7 liter flow of oxygen while under sedation......might as well just blow up a split rim behind me...

Alright! let everyone feel welcome and here's a nice food buffet of buffalo wings, celery, blue cheese dip, roast beef, rolls, hot pretzels and little weiners in beans in the crockpot- get to it and liven up here!!

didja send my daughter a post card from there!??

big help you are!!

sounds like fun.

we had "service week" in boot camp where you took a turn in the Chow Hall

then you "mess crank" on Submarines. young guys take a few weeks/months in the Galley and in the Trash Room (TDU - trash disposal unit - think trash torpedoes)

my E4 was fussing out my E5 one day about the trash the E5 brought for him to compact for the TDU. the E4 got another 2 weeks in the trash room.

then one day, one of the E3's was giving the E5 a hard time, the E4 said "that's not a good idea, you ought to respect the folks senior to you...."

Oh, my head hurts.

Someday I will remember that your supposed to sit at the end of the table so your wine glass doesn't get refilled twice each round...
