Get yourself one of those huge tent stakes they use for circus tents. Drive it into the ground at an angle away from the truck. Attach the wench strap at ground level on the stake. In a pinch, if you have a T post you can use that too. Just make sure the angle is pretty severe away from the truck (so the strap digs into the earth) otherwise it will just bend over on you. Oh, and set the stake/post deep.

Yeah, but I can't say I would be able to contribute a whole lot, I have very little free time... Wife, business, active in my church... But I would like to join...

The entrenchment tool is good for small stuff, I like it because it fits in tight places, if I'm gonna be going off-road, I also take a real shovel. And a bunch of other suff.

One thing I've been told to use as an anchor point is an old axle. Go get one from a junk yard and drive it in the ground at about a 45* angle away from you and hook the chain to it.

I'd simply bury the spare tire with the cable attached. 3-4' deep in the gumbo then winch yourself out. Been there and done that!!

What I have used for alaskan muskeg is a big 1.5 inch 4' long solid pole with a point on the bottom. I welded a 8" plate along 2' of the pole. I made the plate shaped like a spade. I pound it in almost all of the way down at an angle greater than 45 degrees facing away from the truck. This has never failed even in muskeg. Then after I get the truck unstuck, I take the winch and the pole in the other direction and it comes right out. Plus it was free.
