CTD buggy
Has anyone built or seen a CTD rock buggy? I have been thinking of building one. It would be great to see the suprise on peoples faces rolling up in big diesel on 44's. Might be kinda hard to hold the drive train together, or at least expenisve.

Most Scorpions were powered by TBI 350's but there was one custom built for a customer with a 4BT in it. 4BT's are starting to get very popular with the CJ and FJ crowd. It seems that it isn't difficult to get 250hp and 600 ft/lbs out of them. There have been a few Jeep/buggies in the Pro rockcrawling crowd but they are just too heavy for a competition buggy to work well.
I have not seen a 6BT or ISB in a buggy, though. For the most part, a 1100 lb engine just isn't realistic when the trend is to build these buggies as small and as light as possible. Big engines, big drivelines and big tires have given way to the "build it light and wind it tight" approach to rock buggies. Big torque is no longer important when the average tire is a 37-39" radial, overall gearing isn't usually less than 100:1 and the heavier sub-compact buggies are 3000 lbs.

I always thought it would be cool to go the other way just to spite those guys in their little buggys. Maybe an old clark log skidder with a marinized 8v92tta, 60,000lbs planetary axles, and 72" tires, oh yeah and some nasty over 100,000lb winch. It would be a different route thats for sure

There was a 6BT used in a buggy that was in 4 wheel & off road. I can't remember the name of it, I remember it was a nice olive drab and had a canvas top... I'll see if I can find it

The guy on here that has the long thread about his cheap p-pump conversion has one with a 6bt. I will see if I can find his name.
EDIT: Here is the thread. There is a pic somewhere in it.

there's a guy in east TX who took a 2nd gen quad cab, set it on 4 linked rockwells w/ the rear axle set about a foot behind the cab... sitting on some 48" boggers... full body cage, no doors, etc. the thing is sick!
