So...Big Blue! Two days later and no update on the crossover steering??

I know we would have heard about it if it was done.

Must still be trying to drill a 3/4" hole in that cast iron Pitman Arm! .

I would like to know what is soo hard about drilling cast? Is it hardened? Is it something a drill press and press vice can handle?

The pitman arm is hardended and heat treated steel. A little difficult to drill out when all you have is a hand drill and your hands to hold it. A buddy of mine down here at my parents place has a drill press I'm gonna call about tomorrow to see if I can use it. I'll let yall know how it goes.

Just got back from the O'reilly spring national NHRA drag races. Fastest we saw was 4.61@317. I've been going for 6 years now and every time I go it still blows me away how fast these guys are. Not to mention the umm scenery that this thing brings out.

New injectors Tyler I will be impressed to see your truck get out of the mid 400hp range and get into the low 400hp range. The more you add the lower it gets. Sucks for you, but it sure is funny to us.

My stuff has been there for 2 weeks now and I want my truck back, regardless of who showed up on your doorstep...

I uderstand things happen and get people sidetracked, but I'm a paying customer and was promised my head to be done Thurs night... oh ya was also promised wed, tues, and mon

So I'd say when it would be done, but in all honesty I have no idea... ticks me off...

ok Rant off
On the up note, I know they are doing good work and the head when I recieve it is going to be right... Head is going to be just about brand new when I recieve it... New guides, springs, valve cut, rings, gasket, decked, etc.... Still something to look forward to...
We have a big King of the Hill race tonight and supposed to have one last night rescheduled from last weekend thats how it works in the race world. Trust me I know I run a race car shop and when one of the big dogs come in and need help or work done you almost drop everything. And to be quite honest you dont mean jack S**T to them because you arent spending big money with them.

What you say is correct.....but that don't make it right. I know they don't, but service people should look at what's the right thing to do and not who has the most money. My stuff and my money is just as important as the next guys.........too bad they don't see it that way.

Either way, with me if you tell me it's going to be done, I expect it to be done. Period. I have no patience for excuses...

On another note the saga continued last night as I arrived at 7:30pm to pick up my head as I was told... Well it wasn't ready, I arrived to watch them standing around my non-assembled head. Turned out the Ray wasn't completely happy with the valve job that was cut that morning... (So now although this is frustrating is the way I like things to be done...) He wasn't happy so he recut it himself... That took about 3hours... Have to re-level the deck for each guide, you would think they would all be level with the head or at the same angle, but not the case. They all vary a slight amount (mainly becasue of the badly worn stock guides and the process required to bore those out and install the sleeves). So that was a long and tedious process (adding to the time was making sure to keep very sharp cutters, sharpened twice).

After the valve job, Ray installed the rings. Was pretty cool to watch. You have to search for a good long while to find the beginning and end of the wire. It is about as near seamless as possible.

Time for the power wash and final cleaning.

Then was time to install the valves(properly lubed of course), new seals, spring shims, springs, and retainers.

Then came time for payment... Had my form of plastic ready and handed it to Ray and he had a blank look on his face....... Don't take credit cards of any form..... I thought he was joking!!! If it wasn't 1am already I could hav had the money transfered into his acct., or went and got a cashiers check, something.... ATM was only going to allow $800 per day so that wasn't going to work.... I was . Couldn't believe this guy only dealt in cash.... I dont normally carry $2400 with me daily.

So long story short after a long trip to Ft.Worth to Cummins for my 180 Tstat and a trip south to RayMacs watching them work on my head, I left with nothing ..... Drove through the craziest dfang storm ever on the way home...

Luckly my parents have a medical conference in Arlington this weekend so mom picked up my head and one junk head (Diesel- Dan and XLR8R can fight it out) this afternoon....

So my head is in at least my families posession and it should be installed manana.

Of course on a Sun when zero stores are open in my area
Wish me luck!!!

Final Costs : Will itemize better once I have the invoice inhand...
$700 Pro/Sportsman Springs
$600 Replace guides
$500 Valve Job
$130 Marine Gasket
$1170 Machining Labor (will itemize later)
= a $3100 head!!
Sooo long story short... probably could have been done cheaper elsewhere, however I am very confident that this was done correctly, maybe the piece of mind is worth the extra $$?

Deck is within 4 tenthou
ring portrustion is right on the money. He checked each ring like 20 times with a very trick little dial gauge....
Seals are new
guides are new
springs are new
gasket is new
thermo is new

Hopefully she will run for a long long long time!!

OUCH!!!! That's incredibly painful. Glad to hear you got it done and I can't wait to see how that truck runs now.

Mike, they are industrial injection 11 hole EDM 200+hp injectors.

Mean time I got my pitman arm off and after I get back from a horse show tonight I'm going to drill it out and start on the knuckles.

Wow Brian, diesel parts/work sure seem to cost more than the gasser junk!

I agree Charlie, everybody's money is the same color - with us it's 1st come, 1st serve.

Dan, I'll let Brian give you his head... you'll put it to better use!

Tyler - how do those II sticks compare to some of Don M's?

I went and checked out the new truck shop in the area. 'Muscle Trucks', on Rt 380 in Ponder, Tx. Just opened 3-4 weeks ago. They have a very nice top of the line, Super Flow Dyno. Have heard a lot about them but this was first I've seen. Definately the 'Rolls Royce' of dynos, IMO. Give print outs for each run in STP, S.A.E., & Dyno Jet comparisons.

Due to weather that went through Dallas area Friday night, turnout was very light, but suspect this shop will be a strong resourse in the future.

I have been reading about that place. I couldn't make it but I think they had a dyno event going today. Did you try out the Superflow??

Maybe it will be an option for future GTGs, dyno meets??
