I'm Back!

Tyler,
We had a G35 rent car for a week. I was impressed with everything except the road noise. My sister's Hyundai Elantra is quieter on the highway than the G35.

because you know by buying that car you in essence are strapping on your mangina....but's its cool, I understand your though process. Honestly, if it was me, I would look at the new lexus IS series or an M3...

A friend of mine at work has a G35 with the Sport package and the Triptronic transmission. That thing has to be backwards. To upshift you press forward and to downshift you pull back. The first time he was screwing around and racing our boss with his RSX, he took off and kept pulling back on the stick. Managed to wrap it up pretty good before I reminded him which way to go to shift. Still seems backwards, because every other rental I've had with that kind of trans you always pull back to upshift and push forward to downshift.

Nice car, but it does have a little more road noise than I would have expected.

It is a slightly noisier car than what I expected but nothing to bad. After living with the truck it's down right quiet though.

Ryan, I'm still debating an IS or an M3 but I dunno. I've got a year left to figure something out. Doubt i'll go with the m3 just cause I'm not a big fan of the styling and BMW is a little more high class than I would like.

Justin, that's why I'm getting a stick. Driving the trip tronic was....well boring in all actuality.

My buddy has an M3 and it was fun to drive for all about 10 minutes... Had it up to 140 on I45 right off of Mockingbird in a heartbeat. Was a lot of fun, but then I realized the only suspension was my back... Was sore from a 30min ride up to Lewisville one day!!! Got a ride back with another friend in a 5 series... Much smoother

IS is cool but a lot overpriced for the package IMHO

That's what I'm thinking. The lexus is very nice but the car isn't fast enough for the money. For that price tag I could get a vette. Not to mention I don't want a four door. And the only BMW I want is a 750iL but I don't think that's happening.

Spent afternoon w/ Diesel Dan....got clutches & steels replaced/restacked. Fair amount of wear on clutches for 125,000 miles but all rotating metal on metal parts looked brand new. Dana differentials are very impressive!! Overkill, IMO....which is just right.

AND...Dana 70's are still Power Lok Differentials.... contrary to all the hearsay posts. I've read that only Trac-Loks were available after 98. Will post on 2nd Gen Performance Forum...with pics, when more time.

Dan looks good...Charlie & I took him to lunch to wait out a rain storm (working outside).

Rowland, I just realized I never replied to your question - sometimes I forget which thread I'm on!

The stainless steel indexing pins for the traction bars will let you easily see and/or feel the bars' orientation in the roll axis - will make adjustments/checking much easier.

p.s. ... and I'll have manufacturer's decals to apply as well, if you don't mind
