North Texas DTR #8 June Meet
As long as the hoses are connected it's fine. I was in the water up to my racks yesterday (just low enough to not hit the intakes) and I stayed dry. That's why he couldn't figure out his issue...till we started poking around. I'll have to check the rest of my stuff, but I'm pleased with how it performed. Glad I put the lift on, otherwise I wouldn't have made it anywhere yesterday.
EDIT: Here's a pic of my Grizzly with the new shoes. Mine is the tan one, the other one is my buddy's '02 with 28" ITPs...which he hasn't washed since the last time he was mudding when he buried it.

Rain! I feel like I'm living in the Amazon! The ditches were flowing over 3133, toward Van Alstyne, in one place. Great place to hydroplane....one had alread slipped off to the shoulder, but made it back to the road.
At least I can see the sunset thru a thin layer of clouds tonight.

I won't be. I've decided to either just send James the money and have him stock pile parts for me till I can afford everything at once or just send him money and have him get parts and whatever I can afford to have installed when I go see heather have him install during that week.
Robert, word of advice on your tranny. They might not show signs of dying until it's to late. That's what happened to mine. I didn't realize how bad of shape it was in until it started slipping and from that point till I took it to james (a couple of months at near factory power) I had destroyed almost 3 gears in it. Get it done before your stranded.
And yall wanna talk about some funky rain. I walk into an apartment today and it was bright and sunny. Not a cloud in the sky. I come back out and it's pouring. Still bright and sunny and not a cloud in the sky. Explain that one to me.

I don't think I will be pulling 18+ K again anytime soon. The most weight I will be towing again in the near future will be about 12K total to Arkansas with the WW and loaded with ATVs, 120 gallons of water, gasoline fueling station, and generator.
I would expect that if the transmission was hurt or being hurt by the Tractor load, I would have noticed more heat on the trans temp gauge. The most it ever got up to was 200 going thru Muskogee ( I believe it was) when I hit a series of red lights in a row. Even then it cooled back down quickly after getting back up to speed. Otherwise it never got over 180.
Hopefully, the funds will come and I can get the trans done right by James. In the mean time, im not going to pamper it. Likewise, I don't plan to abuse it either. 2000 more miles or so I will be replacing the trans fluid again and filter at my self-imposed 20,000 mile service interval.
Remember too, even with the Smarty on 9.......Im not floorboarding it and pushing 467 hp thru it pulling the load. I start off fairly slow and let it build up at a comfortable pace. The EGTs seemed lower to me pulling on 9 that when I dropped back to 3 in previous towing trips. The engine just "feels" happier. Can't speak for the trans though...except that it never gave me any indication of a problem developing. I am sure James can tell me all about how unhappy it was though....when the time comes..
Mine never went over 180* even when it did start slipping.
And it's not horsepower that kills tranny's. It's torque.
I'm not saying that your tranny is gonna die tomorrow (although it's possible) I'm just saying that don't let it fool you into thinking it's perfectly happy and healthy.

I am not sure where I could get the water anywhere close to where we are going. We won't be staying in a campground.
It should be fine though....that is what the WW was built for.....boondocking.
It is set for Friday. Thursday night im going to pick it up and Friday taking it to McClains to have a leaking faucet they installed fixed and hopefully the Dometic fridge recall done. I should have it in Sedalia Friday for anybody that wants to stay in it.
The weather is not looking real good right now. I bet Sedalia is flooded like McKinney is today!
I was looking at the instructions on the Putnam XDR install. Apparently if you have a stock receiver, they say you have to "cut vertical gussets level with the bottom of the OEM cross-tube to remove the OEM receiver tube".
I guess the OEM is not actually being "removed", just cut on to remove the receiver and then ground down smooth and flush with the cross tube to make room for the Putnam. I actually like that better as it will provide that much more stability in the rear of the frame by leaving the OEM cross tube there.
So my question is, does anybody (Mike?) have something that can cut that thing off and grind it smooth?? If so, can you bring it to Sedalia?
