Re:eastern nc dyno day december 13th

John_P,

thanks, for the info. I stopped by Cabin Creek today while I was down at New River Air Station.

The campground manager is really informative. They do get some what busy in the winter months with snowbirds that don't go all the way south to Florida for the winter.
They are 3 miles from the triangle of Hwy 17 and Hwy 24 split. Not far down from Waynes. And 8 miles from all the big name restraurants. The sites are grass, pretty level. They have a trailer that can be used for large get togethers.

After reading the link for Coastal Plains on Chamber of Commerce site, a trip needs to be arranged for them to be available after they close down for the season. Looks like the end of Oct is rest time for them. But if we can give them a good show of trucks, I bet they will open up ;D

Mrs Smurf signing off.

Re:eastern nc dyno day december 13th

All,

Mrs Smurf had an interesting conversation at the MUM Festival in New Bern today with some of the folks from Coastal Plains RaceWay. They seem very interested in hosting a Diesel Truck Show Down. They have some ideas and would be willing to open up the strip for the Diesel Trucks.

John & Johnner, when is a good time to go down to the drag strip to talk in detail? Give Chris a buzz and we can get something started.

They mentioned something about running garbage trucks down the track too! That would be a little unusual especially for Jacksonville.

take care,

Leigh

Chris and Leigh:

Johnner and I were planning on going out to the drag
strip on Thursday for "test and tune." Can you guys
make it out there?? We could talk to the track officials
then and try to make some arrangements.

An "all diesel drag race day" would definitely be a first
for Jacksonville!! ;D

Man it sounds like things are rolling! If some folks want to go down Thur. to play on the track I will see if the wife can get off from work and come down Thur. That campground sounds like the bomb, especially if we can have it for ourselves. Count me in on the camping, and let me know what we need to do as far as the campground goes. I swear, it sounds like this thing is going to be a big meet!

Dwinett, Ok, me and you with the low numbers

Sounds like a good party if the camp grounds are empty.

John,
Is it 6 PM at the strip on Thursday, the 16th? I will try to show up later then 6 becasue the last time I was there, I had to sit and chat with a young kid with a Grand Prix all fixed up.

Tom:

Yes, the gates open at around 6:00 P.M. but we usually
try to get there around 6:30-6:45 P.M.

Re:eastern nc dyno day december 13th

I have read threads where people have picked up a few extra horsepower sitting on sheepskin covers. I may have to pick up a set to see what the truck runs stock and then with the covers. Should be a good experiment.

Re:eastern nc dyno day december 13th

Last night, a good group of the NCDTR members met at
"Coastal Plains Raceway" there in Jacksonville, N.C. to
run our trucks.

Chris (Papa Smurf) and his wife Leigh (Mrs. Smurf) spoke
with a representative at the track about our upcoming
dyno event and asked him about the possibility of us
having a "test and tune" later that day at the dragstrip.
Apparently, the track closes for the season on or about
the first of December. However, he told Chris he would
consider opening the track for us for that evening if we
get around fifty (50) trucks to attend the event. There
would be a $15.00 charge per truck to run on the dragstrip.
(This is the fee they normally charge on "test and tune"
night.)

Chris and Leigh will be on here to add to this shortly.
Anyway we thought we would let everyone know now
so we could do some planning if there is enough interest.
We were hoping to have some interest from the Virginia
group (Joel, Chris, Tim, Ed, etc.) to help us with making
this event possible at the track.

Let us know what you think!

Hey Tim,
We could always get Joel to bring his empty goose-neck down there that way he can offer rescue rides home! ;D
There is a link to this thread on the TDR in the "Members Rigs Spotted in VA" section where Joe (46 mech) mentioned this get-together also. Include me in the drag racine group,,,,,,, : ,,,, I just need someone to pull the 5er home if I have to catch a ride home with Joel.

Re:eastern nc dyno day december 13th

Tim,

We've got ya covered on the trailer. Dad has a dual axle flatbed that holds our trucks nicely, and we're working on setting up a winch on it to yank the trucks up there. The dyno and track is about a 25 mile drive from his house.

For the safety stuff, if you're under 13.99 then they require a helmet on race days, but not on test & tune nights. I'd say that bringing a helmet just in case would be a good idea. DHRA also requires drive shaft safety loops, but I don't think the track does. A roll cage will be needed after breaking 11.99. If we get enough trucks then I would imagine the atmosphere would be a lot like a test and tune night.

Wayne has a large field behind his shop that will easily park all of our trucks, so that area is covered, too.

John

Re:eastern nc dyno day december 13th

I came up with a quick list and got 20 names right off the bat:

Myself (banshee)
Dad (x2 trucks) (John_P)
Chris Dubie (Papa Smurf)
Leigh Dubie (Mrs Smurf)
Tim Barber (Timinva)
Dennis Tway (RATTLINRAM)
Chris Stamey (stamey)
Joel (dieseldude4x4)
Joe Grosky (46mech)
Ed Anderson (shovelhead)
Sean Fukes
Mike Whitehead
Shane
Byron
Pete Peterson
Tom Goodall (Goodys1ton)
Scott Kimrey (kimrey)
David Winnett (dwinnet)
King D
Doug Smith (jetpilot)

plus there are several other trucks that run around this area that would surely come out. I would easily estimate 25 already... who else?
