loud bang, bang, bang. Get out & look & there is ATF pouring from the transfer case

Was going along in 4hi about 10mph in a couple feet of snow and was kinda going down a hill not even giving it any fuel and all the sudden with no warning -- bang, bang, bang. I immediatly stop and look underneath thinking it was a axle U-joint or something and then I saw the fluid pouring out from somewhere in under the transfer case. It was dripping down on that skid plate and then down off of it. I couldnt see exactly where it was coming from as there was snow packed in all around it. Wasnt much I could do so I rolled on and started up the next hill and no front wheel spinnage. So I bord around in 2wheel until I came to a place to park it. Havent got to go get it yet and tear it out to look yet. What does DTR think happend ?

Mine did this on Friday night. Front driveshaft came loose, and hit the t-case, busting a hole in the side. Time for a new 241.

I'll guess the rear shaft retainer c-clip came off and allowed the shaft to walk causing the gaers to misalign with the chain. They sell a c-clip eliminatitor that is a locking collar.Gilleys t-case saver..... search.
