Transfer Case Fluid (ATF +4 9602 or Gear Oil)
Transfer Case Fluid (ATF +4 9602 or Gear Oil)
I understand that depending on the year of your truck and type of transfer case, the operating fluid would be different.
Some use the ATF +4 9602 and others use good quality gear oil (i.e. 85w/140 valvoline /lucas/amsoil ect...).
As listed below, I have a 2001 2500 3/4 ton. I 'm not sure what transfer case is on my truck. Is the model number clearly displayed on the transfer case? What fluid goes in what transfer case? My owners manual is somewhat unclear.
Thanks!

I have a 2002 & it calls for ATF+4 in both the transmission (auto) & transfer case. ATF+4 is backwards compatible, I believe the requirement started in 2002. Does anyone know the difference in ATF+3 & +4? I use +3, not paying what the dealer wants for +4.
