HI! got diesel
HI! from Austin Texas, I like this site because of the info about performance diesel engines and particularly the good info about VE pump mods, my vehicle is ha-ha, 1982 Isuzu 1.8 diesel coupe, dont laugh, has VE pump,, 40mpg on used veg oil, cooking oil. got a 97 GMC 6.5turbo diesel sub. but only gets 20-21 mpg, see im retired on fixed income,so milage is important to me, when i was working i didnt care what fuel cost was i just did what everybody else did ,pass it on. I think they call it today PROGRESS. here is some interesting info about diesel vehicles and progress technology, I sold a 1948 GMC Greyhound bus, the manual for it said mpg should be around 9-11 mpg, after 5yrs and checking mpg it averaged 10mpg overall. now my newer motorhome a diesel 2004, gets only 7.5-8 mpg, here is what I would like to know, what reverse technology has been added to the new units, or is the new fuel suspect?
anyway 82 Isuzu coupe, been playing around added a fuel heater,to thin out the oil, works great, IP temps about 120*-130* outside ambient 75* then just finished adding small turbo, T25 Garrett, 40mm compressor wheel, 3" out pipe, OK for a 1.8L, no IC but have a SNOW water/meth kit ready to install.

The Isuzu sounds pretty cool! Get some pics up in your gallery.
You'll probably get more opinions on the motorhome in the "General Diesel" section, but here's my take on it. I'd bet that '04 has an engine with close to twice the rated power of the old Greyhound. More power = more fuel. Also there were no emissions rules back on '48, so timing was set for max efficiency. These days timing is set for minimum emissions, which lowers efficiency.
