Sure, it will bolt right up to the back of the engine,BUT you would need to use your OD unit and I'm not sure how to make it work once you do all that. I mean that the fluid pressure control is all electronic, hence the E in RE. What you may consider is taking the parts out of the RE and put in your RH. Most of it will interchange. Good luck!

The 96 truck uses the RE tranny.

Oops! :-[ In that case pull off the OD units, change all the good pieces into the 2wd tailhousing and swap'em out. Output shaft lengths are different I think, but all the clutches are the same I believe.

Re:will this tranny fit

What we call the "overdrive" unit is basically the tail section. The part that unbolts from the main case. It has about 6-7 bolts. The 4wd unit and the 2wd unit are different. The main case of the transmission is the same.
To remove the tail housings, you have to unbolt a small cover (2 small bolts) that has a big snap ring inside. Then you unbolt the rear housing and while spreading the snapring, you pull back on the housing. Once it comes apart, the meaning is clear on the purpose of the snap ring.
