will not start

my 99 will not fire. three weeks ago I went to start the truck and it just turned over but did not start. hit the key the second time and it started. that was the first time it did that. 5 days later it did the same thing and maybe 3 or 4 days after that it did it again but it will not start at all now. first I drained the filter to see if it would fill back up. I turned the key on and then turned it over a couple times then did it again but it started and ran for 5 seconds and quit.. I figured their was no fuel in the filter so it quit... but I turned the drain on and fuel ran out of it. so I figure the lift pump must be working but I put a fuel presure gage on it and it did not read anything. I have a super chip in the truck and it said their was a fuel problem and something wrong with the ecu unit. I just cant figure out why it has dun this three times but started and now it will not start at all. I thought if the lift pump or injector pump went out it would just quit and not show any sign of it going to quit. any help will be grate. thanks.

From what I have gathered , the trucks with the VP pump will run for some time after the lift pump quits working , this makes the weak VP pump work harder , killing it .
so you may need both , what ever you do , get testing to make sure of what parts you need .
If you give more info , you may get more help , at the user control panel you fill in your truck signature & location , someone may come by to help , or tell you who's good in your area .

thanks for the information. I'm just trying to see if I can fix it myself but it will be taken to Scheid Diesel in Illinois or Indiana .
