the proper way to bleed a vp truck is to crack a plug on the filter and bump the engine over with the key jusy enough for the lift pump to come on may have to do this a few times but it will fire right up then try to crack all 6 lines one at a time of course.

The 2001 model (which is what joshuaray and I both have) does not have plugs on the filter housing so the easiest way to prime the filter is to fill it with fuel before closing it up. Also, you do not have to crack all 6 injector lines--numbers 1, 3, and 4 will do. The engine may run rough for a couple of minutes at first but it will smooth out.

Well as long as were throwing out opinions....the easiest way to bleed a 01-02 is to bump the starter to get the 20 sec lift pump run time and push in the schrader valve test port at the fuel line running into the VP. Once you have good flow out of it and no air it will fire right off.

That's another option I didn't think of (I no longer have the banjo fitting w/ test port there; just an elbow since I installed my FASS). Now that you mention it though; I once used that method to bleed the system at that test port and still couldn't start the engine after that (may have been due to the weak stock lift pump not pushing hard enough to get the air out, but that was in my pre-DTR days and I didn't know anything about any lift pump issues at the time). That's when I went and got a can of diesel fuel and filled the filter housing to get it going. About a year or so after that was when my VP44 went and I replaced it along with installing the FASS. Now it's been another year since the VP/FASS install, so I forgot about that test port having been there but you are right--ideally that method of bleeding the system should work.
