Whirring noise

Hello
Well the Ram has gotten out of the body shop for about 5 weeks now. HER insurance company FINALLY came across with a new bumper, new steering box, new wheel, some other mechanical parts. All totalled it was about 2 grand.

They also came through with a Rental Ram, an '02. I like the brakes on the '02 but that gas engine is gutless. It was the one they replaced the 318 with. But I drove it from Nebraska to Tennessee and back, and it was a nice rider.

Now back to the Mighty Ram. All was well, now I am hearing a "whirring" sound.

From the rear of the truck. Under motion, so not engine. The colder it is the worse it is. I looked under there, and noticed the front seal on the rear diff is leaking so I am taking that in to have it checked out and fixed under warranty. This was not the end of the truck that took the hit, so it may have just started leaking on its own.

Sometimes I get a sound from the front tire, the one that was hit. I looked under there, and all seems well, but I think it may be that the front tire is dead from having had to be driven with an alignment problem prior to repair. Does this make sense? Although I cant actually see any damage to the tire.

Re:Whirring noise

Greetings -

My 2 cents worth..Anytime you get hit, its a possibility that you've sustained axle/diff damage even though it wasn't hit in the rear. Sudden jolts to the vehicles drivetrain while moving can cause things in there to get jammed around. This may be the "whirring" you are hearing, yet it won't create a problem for several more months/miles, until something wears out. You may want to have someone who knows what they're doing check it out. I mention this because of a prior experience. I let it go too long, and blew a rear end up on a GM product that was hit while parked. Heard a similar noise, but was told it wasn't associated by the insurance adjuster. Lesson learned.
