veteran need of help!!!!
im stationed in NC had a long weekend so drove my 2002 5.9l 24v cummins 6 spd ho engine up to CT and new jersey area with a couple of buddies. i was going down the road with about 1/8 to 1/4 tank of fuel and my truck starting to buck. I looked in my rearview mirror and saw white smoke and i immediately shut my engine off. i thought my truck ran out of diesel. i sat on the side of the road and put about 6 gallons of fuel in the tank. im removed my fuel filter cover and bumped the starter and then saw plenty of fuel filling the fuel canister. then i bleed the fuel injection body shradder valve, dont know exact term with black tire cap on it, a little of air bleed out of system and then cycled my key several times. truck still would not start. i realized my truck threw a ppcu p1693 p1690 p0341 codes. towed my truck to shop and replaced cam position sensor then still wouldnt start and replaced cam posistion sensor again maybe because of faulty sensor stilll truck wouldnt start. im stuck in conneticutt i need help with great diesel shops or a solution. sorry for the confusing post but will be returning to CT next weekend. Thanks alot
Did you bleed the injectors at the head by loosening the 3/4 inch injector nuts on the driver side of the head? Start by cracking 2 lines and cranking the engine, If your not getting any fuel I would assume your VP44 went south, and if it starts to fire then I would say your injector lines were "air-locked".
Hopefully this helps.

Correct, I believe they did away with the crank sensor in 2001.5 and went with the cam sensor, which is is tucked under the VP on the back side of the front cover.
BTW, do you have a fuel pressure gauge? What are your running for a lift pump?

You may have a smoked vp44. When they wipe out they usually throw a cmp code. Does the truck smoke like crazy and almost want to start when you try to start it? Try starting it and holding the accelerator pedal to the floor while you are cranking it.
Let us know what happened.

yah i tried holding the pedal to the floor and start the truck but truck doesnt show any sign of starting at all and no smoke at all. mechancic shop is saying something to do with my ecm maybe. anyone know how much theses things cost i can only imagine a computer being pricy.
Hate to say it, but it would be extremely unusual for it to be a ECM.
I would get it towed to a Cummins shop.
At the minimum you need to post the codes. There are many shops who have no clue what they are doing, but happily bill you for a shotgun blast of parts.

Looking at your original post, the billowing white smoke while the truck was bucking could indicate a VP failure. The air in the system seems odd. when you say you bled the air out of the schrader valve on the side of the VP, how did you do this?...it is possible you actually let in air.
Did you read the codes with a scanner, or by doing the key trick?
