Question Turbo Removal - Bottom rear manifold nut

I'm having difficulty removing the bottom rear nut from turbo flange to exhaust manifold.

I've tried sockets, no room; I've tried open end wrench, it'l round off nut corners; I've tried straight box end wrench, not enough room for arm - no leverage' I've tried box end with other box end hooked onto them, not enough room to break nut loose; I've tried ratcheting box end wrench, too fat to fit between nut and turbo casting.

Snap-On has a 15mm half moon box end wrench, this [I]might[I] do it! Price: $44 (one wrench), the entire set $200. I know I sound cheap (read: I'm real cheap), but I have a second tool box and two shelves on my work bench area just for tools purchased for use only one time. I know, I know, a mechanic can only be as good as his tools.

I'm looking for suggestions or what you might have done to get the nut off.

I was hoping it wouldn't come to that. 12 more bolts, 6 gaskets & misc. other brackets, etc.

Engineering?? It worked great on the test bench!

I second that when I put my silver bullet on I cussed for 30 minutes and busted three knuckles. finally got the manifold and turbo off as one and put it on the bench.

sometimes it is easier to do it the long way around then doing the easy way. I have had to do that on a few vehicles.

I got mine off with a box end wrench I think I think it just took a while to find the right way to get at it.

I've actually got a box end on it, but didn't have enough room to put any umph into it. I tried from the top, I'll go below and see if my short arms can reach it. If not, it looks like off goes the exhaust manifold. Thanx for your help.

I've heard that to remove these single piece manifolds you have to reverse the torque sequence/pattern or you run the risk of cracking the manifold. Anyone have thoughts or experience with this?

I have a couple of these style wrenches in my toolbox from my Import wrenching days.
They have been worth their weight in gold many, many times on those "How in the heck do I get to that" nuts & bolts.
