About a week ago the fuel gauge went to empty and the truck won't turn off by the key. I did replace the ignition switch to no avail, I have to kill the truck by pulling the fuel htr relay out of the fuse panel. Every now and then the fuel gauge will come back up and the truck will turn off by the key , I have been searching for a broke ground but yet to come across one any help will be greatly appreciated. I have scanned the truck no codes......2003, 3500 srw 5.9 cummins

 

Sorry, do not have a answer for you. I have the same truck, so am very interested in what you found to be the cause. Once you have rectified the problem. please repost so that we can all learn.

Getting closer to repairing the problem, I was under the truck today looking for grounds , broken wires or whatever did not look normal. I found a ground very close to the tranny that was nearly rubbed into by a wire harness and plug that was very near the ground strap anyways I got to moving the harness and low and below the truck shut down I did have the key off at the time of the jiggling the wires I start the truck again and fuel gauge works and truck shuts down , happy camper today, I'm getting closer .......

 

Found the problem! Back in 2014 I had to put a fuel pump in the tank cuz my lift pump went out on the filter housing so I had extreme diesel put one in the tank come Showdown the plug-in wire that goes that fuel pump and sending unit was half-in half-out go figure but that was the root of my problem. Keeping my fingers crossed the truck seems to be fixed.
