Truck will not start

Hi I'm new........here..... I drive a 1998.5 Dodge 2500 Quad Cab 24 valve. Until just the other day I loved the truck. It all started on the way to work. I drove 45 min. stopped to back into a parking space and it just died. Checked it with the superchips code reader and it shows a P1693 code, could not remove the code. I had to trailer it home. Next day it went to the Dealer. They tell me its a Injection pump and Module. Just over $5000.00 to fix. The truck ran perfectly up until this time. I've read other posts that say they had the P1693 code and their truck is still running. What gives. The fuel pressure has been over 5 lbs. Oil pressure can get high when its cold.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Ken

what other code the 1693 is a companion code it will read that number then 1or more after, that one is the important one. As for $5000 to fix that just sound crazy injector pump around $1100 and a lift pump for a good one around $500. what module are they talking about????

Ken - fill out your signature.

Did you take it to the dealer with the bombs in place?

No other code. All they put in the estimate is Module part # 68003854AA $647.00 3.5hrs labour
Injection pump part # R5013925AA $3,035.00 5 hrs labour
Removed the codes but one said something about turbo speed

$3683 O my any other shops around you if you have some tools and can get your hands on a gear puller that IP is kinda easy. If you have some mechanical skills. I typed in that Module part number but couldnt find anything does it say what it is on the paper?

- sounds like a rip off, the IP can be had for ~ $1.2K, and a GOOD aftermarket LP (FASS, Walbro) for around $600, the FASS II (pump only, no fancy filtration) for around $400....

...the latter is easy to install, and most posts indicate that the former isn't bad either; Note, however, that these early 24V engines MUST HAVE a FP gauge on them so you have a good chance of catching fuel pressure issues before the IP is fried!

Oops, I just noticed that you posted a FP reading, therefore you must have a gauge; FP should not drop under 7 psi at WOT, so....it sounds like you did have a warning!

I work at a Co-op auto parts warehouse. We sell Master LP's but not the IP I'll look today to see if one of our members can get a IP pump.

Ip

I replaced the lift pump last night. Now getting 10 lbs at gauge (not running). It started and ran for about 10 minutes. I shut it off, it wouldn't start again . It put out a P0216 code (injection timing control malfunction ; fuel injection timing failure). I am ordering an injection pump Mon. A friend of mine who is a diesel mechanic can get me a brand new IP from Cummins for $600 Can. Thank for all your imput. I'll let you know what happens.........Ken

Just for kicks..........

Try removing the superchips and put back to stock and see what happens, it very well could be the problem. I had this code with my ez and it went away after I took the ez off. Ez went bad.

5 psi is that at idle or while driving.... well either way it's too low.

Its running

Well the parts guy that gave me that price was well a little low Turned out to be $1550.00 for a local rebuild. Had a hard time finding anyone that had a pump up here. Well I got a Cummin rebuild for $1800 Can from Hotrod Diesel in Woodville On., also replaced the filter and transfer pump. Got truck running last night. Took it for a little run today. Everything seems alright. The fuel pressure could be a bit higher though in between 9-10 lbs at idle. The Superchips was off at the time.
At this time I'd like to thank all that posted a reply Every bit of info help THANKS.....Ken
