truck throwing codes

started comming home last night.. lost power, kept acting like it wanted to die out.. engine light came on... heat gauge went to full hot then back down to nothing....
got home checked for codes got these..
pcu..p1693
ecu...0121
0238
0563
0118
0113
1475
0343
1286
all seem to indicate too high of voltage to sensors..
any idea what would have caused this so suddenly?

That's a lotta codes

I dunno if anybody has answers to all of them off the top of their head...

...but I'm sure they have been discussed on here before.

So, go to search while you are waiting for responses, and type in the number for those codes...

...and everytime someone posted with those codes it will come up.

Have you done any washing under the hood? I would also look at the condition of your battery connections and if you have a two battery system, isolate and test both batteries. Fill in your signature so we know what truck you have. You do that from your user control panel.

thank you for the input,OH it's a 2002 dodge diesel and yes it's a lot of codes,, as for washing under hood.... it's 21 degrees outside so thats not happening anytime soon.
it's the 2 battery system, i'm going to get brave here in a bit and head out and check the connections and test the batterys, also going to look for any loose grounds...
everything i've found so far looking online is leading me to beleve ( i hope) either related to one of those two problems or possably the voltage regulator in alternator going bad..
but i'm still open for suggestions where to look,,,,i hate to take it to the dealer..he always has that "i'm going to the bahammas with what i'm going to charge this guy" look in his eyes every time i walk in..

Yeah, the hat with the little red light. You're a marked man. I believe the regulator is built in to the ECM but I've been wrong before. I seen folks post that the signal for the alternator is taken from the driver's side battery. If you've got a problem and the regulator thinks you need more voltage, it will over charge. Make sure you check the positive cables for broken wires, loose ends etc.

hopefully have it back and on the road friday.. looking at almost 2 grand total cost for the fix..... i'm not real happy with dodge right now...

The voltage to the fields on the alternator is controlled through the ECM. The alternator does not use a full 12 volt field system, so if the ECM loses the ability to provide the proper field regulation voltage the alternator will spike badly.

If you do a bit of searching around here you will find a voltage regulator fix that solves the ECM problem permanently by bypassing that weak link.

It is also a very good idea to have a real accurate voltmeter on any Dodge product and keep an eye on it. When the voltage starts creeping up it is time to have the system checked.
