Truck has no power with intermittent times of full power
HELP!!! My truck has recently lost about 70% of its power, “intermittently”. By intermittently, the truck runs in this condition most of the time with sporadic moments of full power. These sporadic moments of full power could last for just a moment or two, or for several miles. When this truck is in the muted condition, it still has tons of low rpm torque and has constant power as rpms increase to any speed (just at a very reduced rate).
Here’s what I’ve done so far (no changes to the condition):
1. Change Fuel Filter
2. Change Air Filter
3. Remove mufflers and replace with strait pipe (been looking for a reason to do this)
4. Checked waste gate operation
Today I’m going to add a boost gauge to check manifold pressure, other than that I’m a little stuck. The only other items I can think of is vacuum and fuel, and I’m not very familiar with either. I could plumb in a port on the vacuum system to measure it, however I don’t know how much vacuum should be produced.
BTW, I do have the nice oil leak between the vacuum pump and power steering pump. I’ve replaced the seals once to find that the leak got worse. I have a new kit, and I think this time I’ll turn a new spacer to change the position of the seal on the shaft as I believe is has worn a ring on it. The system does have check values on the vacuum system.
Also, the truck is a 5 spd and has about 110k on it. Any advice would be appreciated!!!!

First things frist, welcome to DTR. Now in the upper right hand corner of your screen you need to go to USER CP and fill out your signature so that the other members know what truck we are working with.

Well, I took the truck into the dealer and spent $92 for them to tell me I had a bad MAP (boost) sensor. The interesting part was the $310 quote to replace the bad sensor. I did a little calling around and found that the sensor was only available through the dealer at $97. The math is pretty easy, $310 - $97 = what the F*!k. This is a ten minute job!!!!! You know, disconnect electrical connector, remove old sensor, replace with new, and reconnect electrical connector seams like a good deal for $213.
I’m not trying to start a ranting thread on crazy prices, just wanted to let people know that the new MAP sensor fixed my problems.
BTW, I told my wife that I should get the $200 I saved by doing the work myself. She not only didn’t give me the $200 but she also gave me a $180 bill for the dealership code reading and part. I think I should have kept my mouth shut.

310 sounds right. They charge you an hour to diagnose (92) and then the list on the part was probably 100 and change and then another hour to install. i understand it is a 10 minute fix. But the Dodge dealer is a business. Nothing is free anymore.
