truck died - again

My truck died again. I tried to start to leave my office, it didn't start on the first crank, but I had let off the key when it usually starts. I cranked again, it took a few seconds longer, but fired up. Drove about 2 mi, thought maybe it was idling a little rough, turned it off and it has not started since.

I ran the codes 1693 and 1763, which I have had but haven't replaced yet. I cleared those codes, tried starting again, but haven't gotten anymore codes since.

Could the 1763 somehow have caused a no start condition? What should I try to do first? Pull the negative cables? Crack lines to see if the VP I put in three weeks ago shot craps?

Thanks for any help ahead of time.

Well it looks like the truck has now fallen ill with another common problem. Fuel was reading over a quarter tank, had only about two gallons left.

I'm guessing you have a fuel pressure guage? Have you changed the fuel filter lately? If you have you might crack one of the injector lines loose and see if you are getting fuel up to the injectors. I had an 01 cummins, the day after i bought it the vp pump went out on me. I didn't ever get to read the codes myself but i believe that 1693 code was one of them my truck pulled when all this happened. Hope thats not the case for you, that sure sucks. Best of luck.

it looks like you've found the problem, while the tank's empty is time to change the sender

Yep, its probably sender time. Of course I diagnosed the problem by filling the truck all the way up. Guess its time to go through the filters too. So glad I added an el-cheapo inline along the frame rail. I'm sure those pumps tried to suck up whatever junk they could find on the bottom of the tank.

lu798, VP was my first thought. However, mine is only 3 weeks old, so it would have been covered under warranty. Glad that wasn't the case. I would've definitely gotten a bit ticked.
