Truck is dead

Hey guys,

I have a 2001 24v with 170K miles on it. Truck is in great condition other then not running. I was driving on the highway the other day at about 75mph and it just cut off. Any ideas. Ive got a Diablo power puck on it so I think that this might be the injector pump. A few months ago, I put about 15 gallons of gas in it. I know...I know... I have 3 truck that I run and made a mistake. Well, the kicker is, I was in South Texas when I put gas in it and had no way to drain it. I filled the rest of the tank with D. It started up but ran like crap. Every 5 miles I would stop and add more D from a reserve can. Anyways, It ran just fine for a few months to now. Im thinking that I killed the injector pump and it just now went out.

In the back of my mind I'd say the IP is toast. The gass probably finished off an aging IP.

But as always try the simpler things first.

Fill out you signature so we know more about your truck.

got fuel in the tank?? At least 10 gallons.

I think I'd disconnect the PowerPuck for now just on the outside chance it is bad.

The fuel filter is very suspect because of the gass. It can be hard to start if you change the filter now so try to measure pressure after the filter housing.

It's entirely possible that the tank pickup has collapsed due to the gas. If you have good FP you can probably let this slide untill the truck is running again. But it is on borrowed time too.

Batteries ok??

Clean and good grounds.??

Check all the relays.??

Main fuses??

Next you need a fuel pressure gage. Test the fuel pressure by bumping the key but not starting. 12-15 psi good for now, 5-10 living on borrowed time, 0-5 replace the lift pump.

Assuming good FP (lift pump), crack the 1,3 and 4 injector lines. Try a brief cranking. Lots of fuel, the lift pump is probably ok for now and the IP is possibly still ok. If not...well, you'll need an IP.

You will need to check the codes. You can do the key trick on your truck but it probably won't show what is needed. You really should get the codes scanned. This will probably give a 0216 and 1688 which is the alsmost the final death note for the IP. It's also possible not to see any codes at all. You may get a crank position code (can't remember the number). I'd try and replace it if it comes up...cheaper than an IP but it is often a result rather than a cause code. (my terms) .

There are a few other things too but get this done first and we'll have more to go on.

Thanks for the info. The Trucks batteries are fine. The truck will crank but not start. Its got a full tank of fuel right now. The power puck is disconnected. It was the first thing I checked. Ill get started on checking the things you talked about Friday afternoon.
