I have an 02 dodge ram 2500 4wd with the NV4500 (5 spd). About 14 months ago we had a Valair Dual Disc Ceramic Button clutch and upgraded the input shaft to the 1-3/8" Input Shaft. Yesterday, all of a sudden this ungodly racket started coming from the tail shaft of the trans while the truck was in neutral at an idle. The noise does continue when you shift into gear and engage the clutch no matter what gear you go into. I know about the 5th gear bolt problem but dont think that is the problem since it continues even while the truck is in neutral. Any ideas about what it could be?

 

the gear could have fallen off or you shattered some of the teeth pull it and start looking.
