Which transmission do I have?

1997 3/4 ton with the stock automatic. VIN is 1B7KF26D7VJ520842. I am wanting to do my band adjustment this weekend and can't figure out which transmission I have, the 46 or the 47. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yep. You have a 47RE. All Dodge/Cummins got the 47RE until I think 2003 or 2004 when Dodge started to equip them with the 48RE. The 46RE went behind the gas engines (Magnum V8/V10), and never with a diesel.

Well, not ALL Dodge/Cummins got the 47RE. 1st gen trucks got the 3-speed 727 Auto that ChryCo had for many years.

Early Second Gens got the 47RH, which is hydraulically controlled. The 47RE is electronically controlled.

4-- 4 speeds
7-- 700lb-ft capacity
R-- Rear wheel drive
E-- Electrically controlled

Hope this helps.

Thanks all. Didn't get a chance to do it this weekend, although I really thought I would. Turned out I had to wean calves, which managed to take all day Saturday, with relatives conspiring to eat up most of Sunday. Oh well, at least now I know. Thanks again.
