Transmission

I have a 01 Dodge 2500 with the cummins 24 v . It rides and drives great and I have had no proublems pulling anything I need to pull. I do have a question about the transmission.
I work offshore so my truck sets in one place for a month at a time. When I get in it to go home It want go in drive or in reverse. After shifting it through the gears for about 45 sec it will start slowly working fine. After that it never does it agin. It has not effected the way the truck pulls in any way. The truck shifts out perfect and does not jump or slip. If anyone has had this proublem before please let me know. ???

Re:Transmission

Sounds like your torqe converter is draining back while sitting. I don't know the cause, but, if you start the truck and allow it to idle in neutral instead of park for a minute or so it will refill the converter. Try going to www.dieseltrans.com and either post a message or call and talk to Bill K.
Tom

Re:Transmission

Timewing here with a few questions about the comment made by MnTom. I do agree with the torque converter leaking back but I dont think its leaking at the torque converter. If it was wouldn't I see and difference in my power while pulling.. I have a 28 ft fith wheel camper that I pull and It still pulls very good. Is it possible that it could be leaking back through the valve body or something ? I would like to thank you guys for the info .
Timewing

Re:Transmission

There should be a anti-drainback valve in one of the tranny lines between the heat exchanger and the tranny.
It's just a ball & spring valve and there could be a small piece of crud preventing it from seating all the way.
It's put there to prevent the trans fluid in the torque converter from flowing back into the pan after the vehicle sits for awhile.
Daily-driven trucks would never notice a problem if this valve malfunctioned, but since your's sits for weeks at a time, the fluid drains back and you need to idle with the trans in Neutural to allow the pump to refill the torque converter.

Sorry this is so long.....
