Tranny problem!

Hello I have a 98 12 valve 4x4 with auto trans 95,000 miles. This morning I put the truck in reverse to get out of the garage and it sliped. It worked fine in all foreward gears. I got to work and now have no reverse at all. I can feel it engage, and the linkage looks to be well adjusted. the only mod I have is 4inch exhaust.

If I had to take a guess I would say the apply piston broke for the reverse band.
Pull the pan and take a look. The rear band is reverse.

there is no engine braking when I let off the gas pedal in 1st gear, So I think you are right. Do you know where I can get the parts? Is this a home repair job?

to check the rear band adjustment its just a pan gasket. most auto parts stores will have that. if the rear band is broken than the trans will have to come out and a total tear down to get to it. if the rear band is ok than it will be in the OD section. that is in the extention (rear )housing. that takes special tools to repair and without them is a dangeris job as there is an 800 lb. spring inside.
